​It all began when we were young students. A group of bullies planned to jump and beat me up after school closed. Instead of going straight home, my best friend chose to stay behind. He wanted to defend me and make sure I was safe.

​After the whole difficult situation was over, we were walking home together. Tragically, he was hit by a car. The driver was reportedly drunk. Sadly, the accident severely injured his legs. After being unconscious for two days, he woke up to learn he would not be able to walk again.

​From that day forward, I made a promise to myself: I would always be there for him and remain his best friend, no matter what challenges we faced. ​And here we are today, 25 years later, still the best of friends.'

Mike Adenuga worked as a taxi driver to help fund his university education. A student in New York, USA, he drove a taxi to pay for his studies, even though his parents belonged to the upper middle class in Nigeria. He was born and raised in Ibadan, Oyo.

His dad, Oleye Adenuga, was a schoolmaster while his mother, Omoba Juliana Oyindamola Adenuga (née Onashile, of Okesopin, Ijebu Igbo), was a businesswoman of royal Ijebu descent. He graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Pace University, New York, with degrees in Business Administration.

In 1974, returning from New York where he obtained his master’s degree in business management, Mike Adenunga, began by taking over the business of his mother, who was in the distribution of soft drinks, but who also sold lace fabrics, you know what this means among Yoruba People.

Adenuga made his first million in 1979, at age 26, selling lace and distributing soft drinks.

In May 2015, Adenuga made a takeover bid to purchase Ivorian mobile telecom's operator Comium Côte d'Ivoire for $600 millionGlobacom Limited, commonly known as Glo (Global communication), is a Nigerian multinational telecommunications company founded on 29 August 2003 by Mike Adenuga.

As of June 2018, the company employs more than 3,500 people worldwide
