My running journey began as a doctor’s prescription back in 2013.
During my divorce in 2012, I visited my doctor because I wasn’t feeling myself and had a lot on my mind. My doctor was also a close friend, so the visit felt more like a casual one but since I was in his office, he asked if he could check my blood pressure, and voilà, it was very high.
He did what any good doctor would do and asked me to return the following day to see if it had improved. That single visit, however, turned into almost two weeks of daily check-ins.
He then proposed putting me on medication, but I asked for alternatives. Having grown up watching my mother take blood pressure tablets all her life, that wasn’t the future I had envisioned for myself and frankly, I’ve always hated taking tablets.
The alternative was exercise in whatever form I preferred at least four days a week, with daily check-ins during the first week. He also invited me to join the Raylton Social soccer team, where he was the SG of the team and I signed up immediately. So I began running and playing soccer, though I gravitated toward running. It’s not a contact sport, and a previous injury during an under 14 soccer match in high school had not only left its mark but had also earned me a firm ban from my mother, who insisted I focus on my education instead!
After about two weeks of running, I was in considerable pain from the running but my blood pressure had improved significantly, so the prescription was clearly working as intended. 🤭
From that point, I never looked back. I maintained my walking and running routine three to four days a week, and I’ve kept it up ever since.
In February 2020, a colleague who knew I ran regularly asked whether I had registered for the CBZ Marathon. I hadn’t even heard of it. She persuaded me to sign up for the half marathon, but by the time I tried, it was fully booked and only the fun run and the 42km were still available. So I signed up for my first full marathon and finished in 4:10, which is respectable for a complete beginner!
I’ve run many half and full marathons since then, and this year I’m chasing a sub 3hr marathon. Running has truly become my way of life and I’m loving every step of it.
Looking ahead, I’m looking to run all the world majors and the ultimate @ComradesRace. It might not be today or tomorrow but it’ll happen in my lifetime 🏃♂️🏃♂️
F1 - second CBZ marathon 2022
F2 - me in my happy place
F3/4 - sonny joined me recently🤸♂️
My past relationships taught me that the more chances you give somebody, the less they value you. They aren't afraid to lose you because they know no matter what, you won't walk away. Respect yourself enough to start choosing distance over disrespect.
About last night;
Running awards dinner, I came out third amongst all the ladies who registered and finished comrades marathon 2025 with our club, Running Is Our Therapy. It was a good year on my running calendar and indeed my heart is full ❤️

I think when you’re transitioning from being a people pleaser into someone with better boundaries, it can feel so strange — it's hard to tell if you’re being mean or if you’re simply respecting your own feelings, because you’re so used to putting other people's feelings first.
ManipuIation is when someone always plays the victim and bIames you for your reaction to their toxic behaviour but doesn’t discuss their disrespect that triggered you.
One day you will understand why your timing was perfect all along & why things had to happen exactly the way they did. To protect you, to guide you & to redirect you to where you were always meant to be. Trust the process of your path, evolution & growth — it's all divine timing.
Good morning 5am club. One day you’re going to look around and see everything you prayed for built from the ground up because you refused to give up. Keep going.🌷
