ICYMI: You won’t believe what they’re doing in St. Bernard Parish.

Julia Letlow’s fiance Kevin Ainsworth is the registered Louisiana lobbyist for Ports America Louisiana — the company pushing a massive terminal into St. Bernard Parish over the objection of 74% of the community. Letlow calls any questions about Ainsworth’s lobbying interests below the belt and refuses to answer them.

For those who don’t know what’s going on in St. Bernard Parish — let me get you up to speed.

Port NOLA quietly acquired 1,200 acres in Violet starting in December 2020. No community vote. The St. Bernard Parish District Attorney said Port NOLA does not even have jurisdiction to operate a container facility in St. Bernard Parish. The parish sued.

74% of St. Bernard Parish opposes this terminal. They don’t want their cemeteries moved. They don’t want their schools disrupted. They don’t want 18-wheelers rolling through their historic community for a foreign-owned port operation.

Ports America is 100% owned by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. A Canadian pension fund. When they moved to take full ownership, two U.S. Federal Maritime commissioners wrote to Treasury Secretary Yellen demanding a full national security review. They said allowing it without review would be a dereliction of duty. The review was requested. The deal went through anyway.

The joint venture was formally incorporated in April 2026. Construction is coming.
