Hey @Gwynne_Shotwell, @Starlink, @elonmusk
I am writing as a Sri Lankan customer and technology professional to formally express serious concern regarding reports of a potential collaboration between @Starlink and @dialoglk in Sri Lanka.
Starlink has entered the Sri Lankan market with immense goodwill, hope, and trust-primarily because it represents a clear alternative to the long-standing issues faced with existing local internet service providers. Among them, Dialog Axiata is widely perceived by customers as one of the poorest-performing providers in terms of service quality, transparency, and customer respect.
For many years, Sri Lankan customers have experienced:
- Inconsistent speeds and unreliable connectivity despite premium pricing
- Aggressive data caps and unclear fair-usage policies
- Poor customer support with minimal accountability
- A strong perception that profit is prioritized over service quality or customer experience
Starlinkโs reputation, on the other hand, is built on technological excellence, independence, transparency, and putting capability before bureaucracy. This is precisely why customers are excited and why there is deep concern about any form of dependency or operational partnership with a local ISP whose reputation fundamentally conflicts with Starlinkโs values.
A collaboration with Dialog Axiata risks:
- Diluting Starlinkโs brand perception in Sri Lanka
- Reintroducing the same operational inefficiencies customers are actively trying to escape
- Undermining customer trust at the very moment Starlink is gaining strong organic support
- Creating the impression that Starlink services may eventually inherit local ISP limitations, controls, or commercial behaviors
Many customers are choosing Starlink specifically to move away from Dialog Axiata and similar providers not to encounter them again under a different name.
Sri Lanka is a market where Starlink can succeed independently. Customers are ready to pay for quality, fairness, and reliability. Any partnership that compromises operational independence or customer trust would be deeply disappointing to a large segment of early adopters and supporters.
I strongly urge Starlink to carefully consider the long-term reputational impact of any such collaboration. Maintaining independence from poorly perceived local providers will protect your brand, preserve customer trust, and ensure sustainable success in Sri Lanka.
