@wills_kojo Otoscopes are in every consulting room/ER here in Canada. You don't need an ENT consultation to get your ears checked out. It's pretty basic.
Never been to UGMC but when Ridge was first built, every room had one too. Shocked UGMC doesn't.
There’s no need for our National Referral Centre to run a 24 hour OPD. It only says that we failed at the Primary Care level if we have to.
Secondly, with my little experience of working in an OPD, running a 24 hr OPD when you have an ER is a waste of resources.
Your man was lambasting HCWs cos he felt they lacked empathy
"Just stabilize" he said
But as usual they spent the morning laughing about abolo and things while a serious health crisis of patients lying on hospital floors, which happened this weekend, wasn't discussed
Emergency medicine residents in Accra have issued a statement to address the video released.
3 main points ;
1. The video is not “AI-generated”
2. Beds alone won’t fix the crisis
3. This is not a KBTH problem. The entire emergency system in Ghana needs reform
@EightLeggedDoc If you haven’t matched as a US citizen you need to quit medicine, NOW. Anyone with a half a brain and knows a lick of medicine matches.
First OB/GYN Match cycle: 10 interviews, no match.
Confident I'm on the right path.
Grateful for the support along the way.

allow these corrupt politicians and party loyalties to deceive you into thinking that earning 30k cedis a month in Ghana is better than traveling abroad. this happened in 2008, and 18 years later, it’s still happening.
Story time - On my graduation day I sat next to a Nigerian who was returning home the next day (I was to start my 1st US job next)
I told him I was proud of him for returning & building. He said:
“My Dad is rich & I am going home to run the family business. Don’t copy me 🤣
Yet, wait times at clinics & ERs are relatively low, except for the instances of delays due to lack of bed space.
Doctors are overworked & often have to improvise to cover systemic deficits. Patients sometimes receive substandard care as a result.
Always a trade-off.
@delalibessa People complete housemanship in rural areas without much resistance because they know it is time-bound. It is the permanence and lack of a clear pathway that create frustration.
@delalibessa After that, incentives can be layered in to encourage voluntary retention. Those who genuinely enjoy rural practice can stay. Those who do not can move on.
