Geoview Assessment:
Three questions that need answers:
1. How did auditors sign off on ₹15.15 trillion of unverifiable subsidiary revenues for five consecutive years?
2. How did stock exchange surveillance systems not flag ₹38 billion revenue per employee as an anomaly requiring investigation?
3. What does this say about the reliability of Indian corporate disclosures at a moment when India is actively courting foreign institutional capital?
This is not just a Rajesh Exports story. It is an Indian market infrastructure story.
🧵 #THREAD: India's securities regulator SEBI just alleged that Rajesh Exports, the world's largest gold processor, inflated its revenues by $158 billion over five years.
That is not a rounding error. That is 99.80% of subsidiary revenues fabricated.
SEBI's action, and what it signals for Indian markets.
• Rajesh Mehta barred from securities markets until investigation concludes
• Company directed to cooperate with forensic auditors
• Stock hit 5% lower circuit today on BSE
• Shareholder wealth erosion estimated at ₹127.26 billion
This is the largest alleged accounting fraud in Indian market history by absolute rupee value.
It lands at a moment when India's markets regulator is already under scrutiny for enforcement speed and when India's market cap has just fallen to 7th globally amid record FII outflows.
Corporate governance credibility is now a live variable for foreign investor allocation to Indian equities.
The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) under the Trump administration has proposed new tariffs on 60 economies under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
54 Countries (including India, China, the UK, Japan): Face an additional 12.5% tariff for failing to impose and enforce a forced labor import prohibition.
6 Countries (Pakistan, Canada, the EU, Ecuador, Indonesia, Mexico): Face a 10% tariff.
Exemptions: Certain items like beef, coffee, specific fruits/nuts, and compliant goods from Canada/Mexico under the North American Free Trade Pact are exempt.
While proposed now, public hearings are set for early July, meaning the actual implementation could follow swiftly after, causing immediate recalibrations in supply chains.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised India's military modernization efforts, stating that Washington is committed to expanding defense cooperation and pursuing co-production initiatives with New Delhi.
Hegseth also emphasized that no country, "including China," should be able to establish regional hegemony or threaten the security of the United States and its allies.
Overnight, Ukrainian attack drones reportedly struck Russia's Taganrog airfield, with reports indicating that two Tu-142 Bear-F long-range maritime patrol aircraft were destroyed.
The Tu-142 is a strategic maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare platform derived from the Tu-95 bomber, making it a high-value target with limited replacement options.
Debris found near the impact site in Galați is reportedly consistent with a Russian-operated Geran-2 (Shahed-136) drone.
Originally developed in Iran as the HESA Shahed-136 and redesignated Geran-2 in Russian service, the one-way attack drone has become a staple of Moscow's long-range strike campaign.
During a Russian drone strike on Ukraine's Danube port region, a drone struck an apartment building in Galați, Romania, injuring two people.
The building is located near the Ukrainian border, opposite the port city of Izmail, a frequent target of Russian attacks.
NATO condemned the incident, describing it as evidence of Russia's recklessness and reaffirming efforts to bolster allied defenses against drone threats.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel faces growing international criticism but continues to receive strong support from India. Speaking publicly,
Netanyahu described Indian public sentiment toward Israel as exceptionally positive and said he believes he has more followers from India than from any other country.
