Imagine leaving a conference that was actually good, to join USC in the Big Ten because the grass was greener… only to end up with a “significant financial deficit” and an “unsustainable” path.

And USC’s attendance hasn’t exactly been screaming “green pastures” either. 😂 Let’s just say there were a few more than 12 fans at the last game… but not enough to make the stadium look full. 💀

August 31, 1987 - Portland forward Kenny Carr announces his retirement.

In a news conference held today, Carr explained that a herniated disc injury he suffered in a Jan. 18 game vs Golden State Warriors continues to plague him with spasms and pain. "The knee injuries were a piece of cake compared to what I have now," said Carr, who was limited the past two seasons due to knee issues.

"We are going to miss his rebounding and his leadership and all the other great things he brought to the team," said Blazers President Harry Glickman.

Portland obtained Carr in a trade from the Detroit Pistons on June 23, 1982 in exchange for the Blazers 1982 first round pick. In 316 games with the Blazers, Carr scored 3,902 points and grabbed 2,549 rebounds. Carr ranked sixth all-time in rebound total at the time of his retirement.

A member of the Gold Medal 1976 USA Basketball Olympic team, Carr was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the sixth pick in the 1977 NBA Draft. Carr spent two years with the Lakers before a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Carr split the 1981/82 season between the Cavaliers and the Pistons before coming to Portland.

A Washington DC native, Carr continued to live in Portland, starting his own construction company in 1986. The success of that business and his three children have kept him in Oregon since. "My kids liked being here, and we were settled," Carr said. "Once that happens, you don't necessarily live your life for yourself anymore. You make compromises."

They killed the old PAC 12 for a TV deal with a larger payout that immediately turned into less TV exposure, less interesting games, exponentially more costs and hundreds of millions of debt.

USC hasn't been this irrelevant in my lifetime. UCLA, irrelevant. Cal, irrelevant. Colorado?

Stanford is playing on the ACC network today. That's part of most west coast cable packages, right?
