see also: endless emails about rebooking training sessions because they're booked for on-call shifts & being asked to swap on-calls to attend teaching
why is it on me to organise all this? a trainee rota should by definition balance training with service provision
i genuinely think i have had zero pre-employment forms and requests for certificates/references/ID/whatever that I have not been asked to complete again after starting this job
having to do all this twice while being in full-time employment and having every single thing trickle through via separate email trails has been so exhausting
A peculiar part of autistic life is having to get comfortable being on your own because some people exclude you (as they think you’re ‘weird’, ‘difficult’ or ‘unlikeable’), only to discover that those who excluded you are upset that you’re thriving and not seeking their approval.
i also personally don't think it's safe for patients
i'm a reasonably healthy doctor in my 20s & one of these delays was likely the cause for an acute exacerbation that resulted in me needing two further appointments and a secondary care visit
i've had a few of these & they've been so frustrating because the person doing them didn't have prescribing rights & both times the scripts were not issued until i contacted the surgery again to say they hadn't come through
increases number of contacts to get the same job done
#teamGP what should be the purpose of the repeat prescription/medication review? Had mine with a non-GP for the first time today, no structure and I don't really know what happened or what I now have on repeat...and I am a doctor. Confused
There is a crisis in clinical academia in the UK. We talk of the need to expand medical schools, embed research into the NHS to improve care, & the importance of a vibrant life sciences sector for the economy of the UK, & yet we seem unable to tackle the underlying issues 1/9
This is one of those traps that NTs don’t even realize they’re setting. You’re supposed to ask questions, but not the actual questions that occur to you, those are weird. You need to have the ability to conjure questions you don’t have to make them feel like you care. Exhausting.
this would make me feel so violated as a patient 🤢
how could anyone think it's okay to seek out a patient's social media when i think most healthcare professionals would feel creeped out if it was the other way around? (plus we've had so many reminders to avoid patients on SM!)
Posting with permission from a locked account. I am honestly baffled by this response from MH services to a patient who complained that their private twitter account has been accessed and written about in their clinical notes.
How can this possibly be justified? 1/
@RITB_@HonorUkb@Wincrotty1 @MattHGraham is a person who doesn't want to die likely to take fewer tablets if they overdose? probably, but that doesn't tell us what the risk of that specific person dying from that specific, potentially small overdose is
the logic of making these assumptions has never made sense to me
@RITB_@HonorUkb@Wincrotty1 @MattHGraham just because someone does not want to die, it doesn't make them more capable of guessing what a lethal overdose or injury would be for their specific body
even an injury or overdose you have previously survived can be lethal when repeated
One reason why autistic people may find the thought of social events overwhelming is they’re often suggested as additional commitments - i.e they don’t replace work/study/etc. When everyday life can leave you depleted, the thought of taking on another tiring thing can feel scary.
Hi, I'm a PhD student focusing on harm in UK mental health services, and I would like to hear about your experiences. (Mental health services includes NHS services, & services provided by charities, companies and other orgs). Currently there is a limited understanding of what 1/
£20 for a newly graduated Dr is not unreasonable
£35 for a Dr that is senior enough to operate independently or run the emergency department overnight is not unreasonable
£50 for a Consultant with a minimum of 15 years training is not unreasonable
Anyone saying otherwise is
When someone tells me that if I'm REALLY autistic, then I would have been evaluated when I was younger.... How about:
• My parents had no idea what the actual traits of Autism were back in the early 90s, and...
• My mom DID wonder if I had a developmental disability, but she didn't pursue a Dx; she was already concerned about how schools might treat me given my race, gender, etc.,
• I made good grades, so my teachers ignored my social/sensory struggles & the bullying I experienced.
