@friscojosh The other version is evaluating a trade assuming no new contract is negotiated over the next three years. How often do traded star players end up playing on an existing contract for more than a season?
@ColeJacksonFB Ravens seem to value 6th and 7th round picks a lot more than I would expect. I’m surprised they don’t package those more often to move up
@mattyglesias The parties have realigned such that democrats are higher income than republicans. Not clear to me that a return to “tradition” should be expected. This may reflect a real enthusiasm gap
@SamMonsonNFL I think it’s hard to evaluate the trade until we see what sort of contract DL gets with the bengals. The talent is probably worth the pick, but a new contract could eat a lot of the value.
@Alea_@towgc@Noahpinion This is a lesson for me on interpretation of macro statistics. I know just enough macro to know that I don’t actually understand how these seemingly simple statistics are generated which makes me hesitant to accept simple political explanations
@towgc@Noahpinion I’m trying to figure out if the simple point is accurate. The world is buying gold, but it’s less clear that it’s dumping dollars. The fluctuating value of commodity reserves seems like an undesirable feature for a store of value
@Noahpinion Sure, but prices are on the margin and gold is a commodity, if uncertainty decreases the value of the those gold reserves will decline. I’m curious how much dollar dumping is going on. That said I have no macroeconomic expertise
@SamMonsonNFL Don’t teams resign players after they request trades all the time (I think this happened with Lamar Jackson)? A trade request may force a new contract offer but the team doesn’t lose agency over a player that’s under contract, particularly if they are tag eligible
@brashlover@mattyglesias All else being equal that sounds like a good thing. I find these time use surveys to be really hard to interpret because these aren’t mutually exclusive categories (parents can both be with their kids at the same time). I would much rather see the raw numbers than ratios
@friscojosh My instinct is that the difference between an average coach and a great coach is much smaller than the difference between a bad coach and an average coach, but I’m not confident
@friscojosh I have no idea how to evaluate coaches. It feels like they get a lot of credit or blame for things that are mostly out of their control (roster quality/injuries). I’m sure they matter, but I’m not sure which skillset is important
@friscojosh From Jeff Zrebiec’s report, this was no one’s expected outcome going into the meeting with the coach and ownership this morning, so something went down
@Noahpinion It’s a taste market, lower entry costs may allow the creation of lower quality products closer to people’s taste preferences. More competition may have lowered the return to quality and allowed match effects to dominate, particularly if investment in quality is risky
@BrandonPerna Year from hell. It also looks like our best DLineman may have had a career ending injury earlier this season. Lucky our division is bad enough that we are still favored to win it.
