The Sports People's Think Tank is all about thought leadership and sportspeople proactively playing their part in finding solutions to issues within sports.
A real privilege to share some insights into the journey @bcomstweet @FootieBlackList and @theSPTT has been on over the last 10 years.
So many lessons learned, achievements and challenges.
Huge thanks @WomenSportTrust for the opportunity 🙌🏽
This is unreal.
Never has any leader or coach in football EVER spoken about white privilege.
We would be laughed out of the room for suggesting it. And they had no clue what it meant.
Time now for action Gareth.

This is big news, the Football League commit clubs to implementing Rooney rule. Is now mandatory to interview at least one BAME candidate.
Questions remain over how strongly it will be enforced and who will monitor, but this is significant.
#EFL https://t.co/nD4dklH5MI
Today’s EFL news is significant.
Feels like yesterday @theSPTT were told there’s “no point” calling for positive action, as “they won’t do it”.
Many, many, many campaigned for this. It’s not the answer in isolation, but will help move things forward.
In an ideal world your right however, unconscious bias prevents many good coaches of ethnicity getting 2the door because the board rooms were decisions are made are usually of a similar demographic, so no surprise with the outcome, if your good enough at least now U get interview
One part of an important initiative which will ensure more diverse, qualified applicants considered by key decision makers..employing the future managers and coaches in the @EFL Well played!! Now onto @premierleague to complete the whole game approach..
To read our reports into under representation of BAME managers and coaches in elite level football in England - check out this link: https://t.co/jgtXloNNXX
We have been working with Dr Steven Bradbury and @farenet for 5 years and have one more report to share this year.
Of course, this measure alone will not solve the issue of the under representation of BAME managers and coaches. However, it is a significant step. We look forward to seeing what the @premierleague will do to ensure all 92 clubs are working with the urgency required. 2/2
We are delighted to see the @EFL have introduced a policy where at least one BAME candidate is interviewed when an EFL club is searching for a new first team manager.
This is something we called for in our first SPTT report 5 years ago.
1/2
The English Football League has made it policy that clubs must interview at least one black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) candidate when searching for a new first-team manager.
