On December 1, 1984, the terrorist organization Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) carried out a brutal attack in Sri Lanka's Northern Province, massacring 11 innocent civilians in the coastal village of Kokkilai.

With the ultimate motive of achieving a mono-ethnic status in the de facto 'Tamil homeland' - boasted by LTTE as "elimination of Sinhalese Ruffians" - this massacre occurred just one day after the group's even deadlier attack on the nearby Kent and Dollar Farm
