Since YCee has awakened Nigerians to the “Olodo uprising” debate, here’s a report on how the big tech giants weaponize their algorithms to dumb down the Nigerian/African population.
It’s my favorite report for the @Spearhead_Af from last year, but evergreen. Make sure you follow the @Spearhead_Af for more of this every single day.
He became the host of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire in October 2004.
N160k in 2004 & 2005 was big boy income. That was about $1200 a month.
Don't let Tinubu's economy confuse you.
You planted this bamboo yourself. With enthusiasm. For a screen. Within two years you regretted it — and within five you understood you could not go back.
Running bamboo (Phyllostachys and related genera) is one of the most frequently self-inflicted garden disasters in Britain. The gardener plants it voluntarily, pays for it, and then pays considerably more to try to remove it.
What the garden centre tells you: fast-growing, evergreen, architectural, forms a screen in two seasons. All true.
What the garden centre does not tell you
The rhizomes of running bamboo (Phyllostachys, Pseudosasa, Sasa, Pleioblastus) spread laterally through the soil at one to two metres per year. They do not grow downward like normal roots — they run horizontally at 15-30cm depth, in every direction, under the lawn, under the border, under the patio, under the neighbour's fence. Every rhizome node produces a new culm that emerges without warning — in the middle of the lawn, between paving stones, through a neighbour's garden.
In three to five years, a bamboo planted as a three-metre screen has rhizomes occupying 50-80 square metres — the entire garden. In ten years they reach neighbouring gardens, irrigation pipes, house foundations, and drainage systems.
Cutting the canes does nothing
Bamboo cut to the ground regrows with more vigour than the year before. Every cut stimulates the rhizomes to produce emergency culms. Cutting weekly for an entire season does not weaken the root system — it causes it to expand faster in search of undisturbed ground.
Digging it out is a serious undertaking
Phyllostachys rhizomes are as hard as beech wood, interlaced in an underground network extending in every direction. Hand digging requires days of work per square metre. Mechanical excavation must reach 50-60cm depth across the entire colonised area — and every rhizome fragment left in the soil starts again. A single forgotten node restarts the problem from zero.
The root barrier
The only reliable way to contain running bamboo is a root barrier — a sheet of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) at least 1.5mm thick, installed at minimum 60cm depth, surrounding the entire planting area before the bamboo goes in. The barrier must be continuous with no joins or weak points. It costs more than the bamboo itself. If it was not installed at planting time — which covers the vast majority of cases — it cannot be retrofitted without excavating everything.
The distinction nobody explains at the garden centre
Running bamboo (Phyllostachys, Pseudosasa, Sasa): rhizomes that travel metres from the original plant. INVASIVE. Never plant without a root barrier.
Clump-forming bamboo (Fargesia, Borinda): rhizomes that grow as a compact clump without running. NOT INVASIVE. Fargesia is the correct choice for a British garden screen — it forms a dense hedge, stays where it is planted, and will not colonise neighbouring gardens.
Eradication protocol
For running bamboo already established, the method with the highest documented success rate is:
Year 1: cut all canes to ground level in June — when the plant has spent its stored energy on new growth and rhizome reserves are at their lowest. Cover the entire colonised area with thick black weed-suppressing membrane, edges weighted or buried. Leave covered for the full season.
Year 2: remove covering in spring. Cut every shoot that emerges immediately. Re-cover. Repeat through the season.
Years 3-4: monitor weekly. Cut every shoot within 24 hours of emergence — a bamboo shoot left for a week is already a metre tall and has re-stocked the rhizomes. Consistency is everything.
Alternative: systemic herbicide (glyphosate) injected into hollow cut stems immediately after cutting in late summer. The same protocol used for Japanese knotweed — to which this problem is closely comparable in persistence and difficulty.
The most architectural screen in the street is also the most expensive to remove. Consider it before planting, not after.
In 1879, a British/Scottish medical student named Robert Felkin watched an African healer in Uganda perform a caesarean section.
Clean incision. Banana wine as anaesthetic and antiseptic. Bleeding cauterised with hot iron. Wound closed with iron pins and herbal root paste.
Mother recovered fully. Baby survived.
Felkin noted in his journal that the technique was SO REFINED, it was clearly standard practice, performed routinely long before any European arrived.
At that same moment, hospitals in London and Edinburgh were still debating whether caesarean sections could ever be justified on a living woman.
European surgeons were operating in street clothes, rarely washing their hands, and losing most patients to post-operative infection.
The Africans had already solved anaesthesia, anti sepsis, haemostasis, and wound care.
Felkin went home and presented his findings to the Edinburgh Obstetrical Society in 1884.
The knife used in that surgery still exists.
It is now housed in the Science Museum in London.
A silent artifact of a surgical tradition they called primitive.
They didn't discover our medicine.
They witnessed it, wrote it down and forgot to mention where it came from.
i’ll reiterate: you have to be extremely stupid to support this government. your brain must be infected.
If you have an accident, there’s no ambulance so you’ll likely die like that. meanwhile, the person responsible is campaigning with a G-Wagon 😂😂
If 16,000 kg of Gold left Nigeria to Dubai while the FG acknowledged exporting only 64kg, then how did Dubai receive more 15,900kg of Gold from Nigeria?
Nigerians seem not disturbed enough about what is going on in Nigeria
Good Friday reminds us of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. May this day further deepen the values of harmony, compassion and forgiveness. May brotherhood and hope guide us all.
Even by Nigeria's already low standards, this was cold and badly presented visually.
When I saw the video of the Nigerian president in Plateau, I didn't believe it. I waited.
The reason the nation permits private jets and helicopters for the president is to allow quick travel across the country at any time. This means the President can fly from Aso Rock to an airport, then to a Local Government area in Plateau State, and return, around the clock.
I have not seen instances where victims are taken to be comforted. Nor have I seen a leader state that he needs a power supply before leading.
In this case, a woman in deep mourning over a security failure is transported to an airport to meet the official responsible for security, who tells her, “I can't stay more than a few minutes because there is no power here.”
Words cannot express my sadness.
It is clear that the President only visited to tick a box — to provide visuals that will enable the media team to respond to Nigerians who will sincerely question what was more important than going to the very place where the killing happened.
What message has been conveyed? Will the president stay longer at a wedding of the rich than at a burial of the poor?
There is something deeply wrong with Nigeria's political class.
No wonder the President is often in France; France has 24/7 power.
Reducing what goes on in a boy’s head on his birthday to fake maturity is an evidence to how insensitive the other gender can be to a boy, many times even in relationships.
For boys, a lot of expectations are attached to age
While birthday is a call for studio photoshoot for some
for many boys, new age is a reminder of the apartment of their own that they should have had
It’s a reminder that they are getting too old to be where they’re financially, academically and relationship wise etc
On a normal day a boy could just sit and start thinking of how to move forward in life, that thinking is more intense on a birthday
So if they don’t send a picture of themselves as broadcast to all contacts on WhatsApp group for a repost, it’s not a flex
They are grateful for life, but when they have something truly worth celebrating they won’t hold back
It’s not fake maturity, we are usually on a date with reality and reality is not friendly.
An American bank partnered with a Nigerian man to launder $308 million of Nigerian government money.
The money left Nigeria through American banks. It then sat quietly in a shell company for years while the man lived comfortably in Texas.
In 2003 American authorities arrested him. He spent six months in federal detention in the United States waiting to be tried.
Before the trial happened he offered to return $163 million.
America accepted. He flew back to Nigeria.
Nobody questioned him. Nobody charged him. Nobody prosecuted him.
He ran for Senate and won. He ran for Governor and won. He ran for Governor again and won.
America returned the $308 million his operation had laundered.
The new president then put him in cabinet.
America did not trust Nigeria with the $308 million.
They tied every dollar to three specific roads. Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Abuja-Kano Road. Second Niger Bridge.
They even included a clawback clause. Misuse one dollar, pay it all back.
Why the conditions? Because previous loot returned to Nigeria had already disappeared.
Nigeria's own government told the court they had no record of how the earlier billions were spent.
A man who laundered billions is currently Nigeria's Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.
He decides how Nigeria spends its money.
