Why do hospitals host retailers selling endless plastic bottles, let alone their unhealthy contents? When you go to a health spa you usually see healthy products on sale. Hospital shops and canteens routinely promote trash #greennhs
BP, Shell and the like, currently
- ramping up fossil fuel plans
- hiking prices
- making ever greater profits
Our PM says we shouldn't tax them more, as that would "discourage them from making the investments we want to see". Right..

Last night’s #panorama has really shocked people. There is no need to abuse cows. You can join the millions of us ditching #dairy for health, planet & ethics. Sign up for #Veganuary (any month) https://t.co/QmrYqVfex2 or @plantbasedhpuk 30day challenge. Always here to help! 💚
There is so much potential for hospitals to learn from this evidence & put meals that support personal & planetary health at the top of our menus #plantbased#planetfriendly
This is the kind of endemic mentality in our culture - profit, convenience and self preservation above all else- that needs to fundamentally change.

Desmond Tutu: We fought apartheid. Now climate change is our global enemy
“Once again, it is a global movement led by students and faith groups, along with hospitals”

"We don’t prioritize the climate today. Our goal isn't to lower emissions. Our goal is to find solutions that allow us to continue life today. Of course you can ask “Can’t we have both?” But the uncomfortable truth is that we've left it too late for that."

Sustainable healthcare starts with sustaining health. It is inordinately resource/carbon/staff/money intensive to treat disease when so much could be prevented
The waste produced from anaesthetic practice is unnecessarily large mainly due to inefficient packaging, generating excessive waste + making it difficult and time consuming to recycle as paper and plastic needs to be separated. @COAIrlsustain@IrishDocsEnv#sustainableAnaesthesia
This summer I lived through the heat dome in Canada. Fearing for my relatives, trying to stay calm and breathe the searing air. Now on heels of #COP26 living through floods & landslides & towns being evacuated. I’m done.
"The total emissions of the richest 10 percent alone are set to exceed the 1.5°C-aligned level in 2030, regardless of what the other 90 percent do" - study from @SEIresearch and @IEEP_eu
This is one of the many reasons why we need climate justice. #COP26

The statistic from COP26 that has hit me hardest is that the carbon footprint of a cataract operation done by Aravind in India is 5% of that of one done in Britain. HUGE room for improvement.
The @CocaCola company and its hundred of brands produce 3500 plastic bottles a second. More than 200,000 a minute. Most destined for landfill.
Until we boycot these corporations, our reusable coffee mugs and water bottles pale into insignificance
