"The Fight for Hippocratic Medicine"
ACFM President Dr. Janet Hurley, residency director Dr. Joe Dougherty, and medical resident Magen Hicks sat down with CMDA CEO Dr. Mike Chupp on the CMDA Matters podcast to talk about what it really means to fight for the Hippocratic tradition in today's medical culture.
A physician. A residency director. A resident just beginning her career.
Three generations of Hippocratic medicine — one conversation.
This is why we built this community. 💚

Two one-hour Zoom appointments. An irreversible surgery. A life changed forever. 🌿
Camille Kiefel was referred for a double mastectomy after two brief telehealth sessions — despite a documented history of trauma, depression, ADHD, and suicidal ideation. The surgery did not resolve her distress. She detransitioned less than two years later and has lived with lasting physical and psychological harm ever since. Software Advice
She said it plainly: "I wasn't given true informed consent. And that's something that everyone deserves to have for any medical procedure." Software Advice
She sued. She won a settlement.
The Hippocratic tradition has always demanded that physicians do the hard work of discernment before performing irreversible procedures — especially on vulnerable patients. Two Zoom calls is not discernment. It is not Do No Harm.

A doctor told Reggie Hong to abort her baby. She said no. 🌿
At 15 weeks pregnant and just diagnosed with breast cancer, her OB told her that chemotherapy would "most definitely kill your baby" — and advised her to terminate.
Reggie and her husband refused. They sought a second opinion at the University of Kansas Health System, where a new medical team told her something her first doctor never did:
"That's not true — there are chemos that are safer for babies. Tons of women get through this." Cuspera
She did. Reggie carried her baby to term and gave birth to a healthy little girl.
This is what Do No Harm looks like. This is why the second opinion matters. This is why physicians committed to the Hippocratic tradition are not optional — they are essential. 💚

A JAMA study just analyzed nearly 13,000 pregnancy-associated deaths in ban vs. non-ban states. 🌿
Finding: abortion bans were not associated with significant increases in pregnancy-associated mortality. American Medical Association
This is peer-reviewed. Published in JAMA. April 2026.
The narrative that abortion bans kill women is not supported by the data.
Hippocratic medicine saves lives. The science agrees.

Her name was Presley Mae. 🌿
A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a man on two first-degree felony charges after he allegedly administered abortion-inducing medication to a pregnant woman without her knowledge or consent — resulting in the death of her unborn child at 14 weeks.
The Montgomery County District Attorney says this may be the first case prosecuted in Texas under the state's abortion performance statute. Axios
The law is clear. As District Attorney Mike Holley stated: "In Texas, life matters — even the unborn, especially the unborn — and if somebody is considering doing this to a woman, they should think twice." Commonwealth Fund
The Hippocratic tradition has always said the same thing. Every life matters. Every life deserves protection. 💚

Dr. Janet Hurley, president of the American College of Family Medicine, testifies at the Texas Medical Association. The resolution passed asking for a review of TMA’s transgender policy.
Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that a New Jersey pregnancy center can seek federal court relief after the state demanded donor records — despite zero public complaints. 🌿
A win. And a warning.
Make no mistake — this was an attempt to silence pro-life donors and shut down life-affirming healthcare networks.
While legal battles remain, the Court sent a clear signal: pro-abortion advocates are also bound by the law.

Medscape's own Match Day 2026 analysis confirms what the data shows:
"Laws restricting or outlawing abortion — making for a difficult training environment — have not had a negative impact on obstetrics and gynecology. The specialty was competitive again in 2026, with only two of 1638 residency slots not being filled. More than two thirds were filled by US MD seniors. Ob/gyn positions were almost entirely filled in the previous 2 years."
The narrative that abortion bans are destroying medical training doesn't hold up. The facts do.

"All Warfare is Deception."
--Sun Tzu
The abortion industry is the master of deception. We are in a battle for hearts and minds....and babies.

"How many deaths were we talking about when abortion was illegal? In NARAL (National Association for Repeal of Abortion Laws) we generally emphasized the drama of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always 5,000 to 10,000 a year. I confess that I knew the figures were totally false, But in the 'morality' of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics?"
The official figures of maternal death due to illegal abortion before abortion was legalized was 160. Dr Nathanson estimated the actual figure to be around 500 maternal
deaths per year (at that time).
