So, there is a political issue to be solved.

The deterrence policy against Hamas didn’t end up well, eventually.

And a new one must now be established in a limited time.

Just obliterating Hamas is not enough.

Israel needs to determine a post-war strategy.

History shows that occupying Gaza again will not be a wise idea.

And even if Hamas is disarmed, Israel needs a Palestinian representative to negotiate with in the area (not sure if the Palestinian Authority has the power to play that role).
