เรียนคนไทยทุกท่านครับ 🇹🇭

ผมอยู่ประเทศไทยมาหลายปีแล้วครับ และรู้สึกโชคดีมากที่ได้ใช้ชีวิตอยู่ที่นี่

ผมเคารพกฎหมาย นโยบายตรวจคนเข้าเมือง วัฒนธรรม และวิถีชีวิตของคนไทยเสมอ ผมไม่เคยคิดว่าชาวต่างชาติอย่างผมควรมีสิทธิ์ไปบอกคนไทยว่าประเทศนี้ควรเป็นอย่างไร หรือควรใช้ชีวิตอย่างไร

ผมมีเพื่อนคนไทย เคยแต่งงานกับคนไทย พูดภาษาไทยได้ จ่ายภาษี และทำงานที่นี่มาหลายปี

แต่ผมมีคำถามสำหรับคนไทยครับ

ต่อให้ผมอยู่ที่นี่อีก 20 ปี พูดไทยคล่อง มีครอบครัวที่นี่ และใช้ชีวิตที่นี่ตลอดไป คนไทยจะมองว่าผมเป็น “คนไทย” ไหมครับ?

สำหรับผม ถ้าคำตอบคือ “ไม่” ผมก็ไม่รู้สึกโกรธหรือเสียใจเลย ผมคิดว่ามันเป็นเรื่องปกติ

ผมคิดว่าประเทศไทยทำได้ดีมากในการต้อนรับชาวต่างชาติ โดยยังคงรักษาวัฒนธรรม เอกลักษณ์ และวิถีชีวิตของตนเองเอาไว้

ในสหราชอาณาจักร เราเปิดประตูให้คนจากทั่วโลกเข้ามา ซึ่งโดยตัวมันเองไม่ใช่ปัญหา แต่วันนี้เรามีคนจำนวนมากที่ไม่ได้เติบโตมากับประวัติศาสตร์ วัฒนธรรม หรือค่านิยมของประเทศ กลับมีบทบาทในการกำหนดทิศทางทางการเมือง และบอกคนท้องถิ่นว่าควรคิด ควรพูด และควรใช้ชีวิตอย่างไร

ผมไม่อยากเห็นสิ่งนั้นเกิดขึ้นกับประเทศไทย

ในสหราชอาณาจักรทุกวันนี้ ถ้าใครตอบคำถามแบบเดียวกันนี้ว่า “ไม่” หลายคนอาจกล่าวหาว่าเขาเป็นคนเหยียดเชื้อชาติ

ผมเลยอยากรู้ว่าคนไทยคิดอย่างไรบ้างครับ 🙏🇹🇭
