Am I missing something? Is this #Invincible comic actually worth something? Did a zillion people not buy this as they did every other modern age comic?
So if you had to pick one comic book and recommend it to your English teacher in order to show them comics are to be taken seriously, which would it be?
(don't mind those hints, I'd pick something else myself :)
Has anybody out there read the comic book called #Unwritten by Mike Carey and Peter Gross? I picked this up at the library a while back and thought it was pretty damn neat, but they didn't have another volume, so I kinda forgot about it until it randomly came to mind just now.
@the_nostalgist Mike Carey is the master of the longform story. Unwritten is really good, but I would most recommend his Lucifer book. It is on par with Sandman in my opinion.
@the_nostalgist I have a big chunk of the singles. I started reading it but just fell off after a bit, with several issues remaining... unread.*
I remember liking it. Not much more. I’ll get back to it some day.
(*See What I did there. ;)
@stefanuffagus I only got to read the first volume--didn't reveal a lot. It seemed like maybe the protagonist had been conjured up from a fictional reality and passed off as the biological child of the author of the books. That's where it seemed like it was leading, anyway. Maybe misdirection.
If I recall correctly, the protagonist is a sort of grown Harry Potter analog whose memories and history have been magically rewritten for... I can't remember the reason. His own protection, I suppose. Something like that. Damn... it was quite good--not sure why I'm blanking.
@GuyCopes3 Oh, yeah. I forgot he wrote that for a little while. Interesting how Jim Lee managed to recruit both Moore and Ellis--two of the best comic book authors of all time--right around the same time.
...to run some celebrity off Twitter or generally make a person's life miserable. There's always going to be a lunatic fringe with everything. That's just people in general. It has nothing to do with fandom.
People should get off their high horses about toxic fandom. If you looked at everybody on social media who cares about a particular topic and took the percentage of people who are actually "toxic" about it, it would be a minuscule percentage. It doesn't take a lot of people...
So this is fascinating to me for some reason. #AlanMoore apparently wrote a bunch of #Youngblood scripts that never saw press because of Awesome Comics going out of business, or whatever. Some fans wound up illustrating a bunch of his completed scripts. https://t.co/tbq8zr5QJE
I have now read issues 63 and 64 of #Supreme. The first is from a script by Alan Moore, and the second is written by Erik Larsen, rebooting the character. The latter is quite possibly one of the laziest and possibly wrong-headed comic book stories I've ever read.
This is a good series of articles about #AlanMoore's work at Awesome comics. I've only read his Supreme run, on which I'm in complete agreement with the author. First half/TPB is amazing. Second, still pretty good, with a few weak spots. https://t.co/twMWhVW0uU
Sounds like some of Moore's other stuff at Awesome didn't quite work, or at the very least, didn't have time to work because of the company going out of business. The author mentions a bunch of finished scripts for Youngblood, which never got illustrated. I think I read...
