Ahead of the groundbreaking of the ₦1.05 trillion Kano Light Rail Project, a delegation from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and Mota-Engil Nigeria visits the Kano State Government
The light rail is expected to modernize urban transportation, improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and boost economic growth, further strengthening Kano’s position as Northern Nigeria’s commercial hub.
Kano State is steadily building the future of Agriculture.
Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, work is progressing on the Dansoshiya Irrigation Infrastructure in Kiru Local Government Area—one of the state’s flagship agricultural projects that will transform farming and improve food security.
The 3,740-acre irrigation scheme is designed to support farming throughout the year, enabling farmers to cultivate crops across three cropping seasons annually. Backed by the Dansoshiya Dam, with a storage capacity of approximately 3 billion cubic litres of water, the project will guarantee a sustainable water supply for irrigation and strengthen climate-resilient agriculture.
The photos highlight the remarkable progress being recorded:
✅ The dam site has been almost completely cleared, with trench excavation underway ahead of the commencement of earth dam filling.
✅ The dam embankment has already been established.
✅ Construction of the 14-kilometre access road approved by His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, is in progress.
✅ Excavation of irrigation canals and road connections linking the dam to the irrigation sites is advancing steadily.
Upon completion, the Dansoshiya Irrigation Scheme will unlock enormous agricultural potential in Kano South, create jobs, increase farmers’ incomes, boost year-round food production, and strengthen Kano State’s position as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.
Abba Is Working. Kano is farming. The future is taking shape.

Gaskiya, you have to give all due credit and respect to Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf. He easily stands out as the best performing governor in the region. If you leave Kano for just a month, you are guaranteed to return to a brand new capital project, unlike our neighbors.
I’m on my second day in Kaduna, and I'm surprised to see just a single project, which is the one linking to the Government House (and even that should just be standard urban renewal for Jajere and Gwamna Road). Kano is blessed, no doubt. Ours is truly the Messi of democracy🐐.
