I am not a Democrat, and I am not even middle of the road in most cases. I support some criminal justice reform. I think the punishment should fit the crime and history of the offender. I do not support the Green New Deal, or Medicare for All. I do think a free catastrophic Insurance- to protect people from medical bankruptcy and handle the highest risk 5% of patients who are making health insurance unaffordable for everyone else. I believe whole-heartedly that education should be available for free to everyone, but I would never agree that should be the only option. Clean air and water make sense to me. I 100% oppose the DSA. I’ll bet you and I could find a lot of common ground. 🤔

CNN’s institutional role has calcified into “whatever Trump says, we say no.” That’s not journalism. That’s opposition research masquerading as news.

A real newsroom would have done this:

•China acquired 220 million voter files. Let’s verify that claim independently.
•Intelligence officials knew about it in February 2020 and didn’t brief Trump. Let’s investigate why.
•The ombudsman concluded analysts downplayed it because of “disdain for the vulgarian Trump.” Let’s examine that.
•Then, if those things are true, ask hard questions about what it means.

Instead CNN goes: “Trump said something, here’s why he’s wrong” without ever investigating whether the core facts are accurate.

They’re prebunking, debunking, fact-checking, and it’s all the same reflex. They can’t think outside the frame of “Trump’s lying.” That’s institutional capture.

Problems I have with this story. It downplays the fact that the intelligence community was aware of the Chinese Hacking during Trump’s first term, but deliberately failed to disclose to the administration because these unelected bureaucrats didn’t agree with Trump’s policy agenda. If any of those people are still working for the government, they must be fired. And I would implore the DOJ for figure out what charges can be brought against them.

Second, with regard to Venezuela and election interference. CNN dismisses Hugo Carvajal because he’s a drug trafficker who pleaded guilty to narco-trafficking. Except Carvajal wasn’t some freelance criminal. He was Venezuela’s military intelligence chief. And in 2020, the entire Venezuelan power structure was a drug trafficking operation. The Maduro indictment shows the regime ran what they called the Cartel de los Soles, a narco operation that included the president, military leadership, and government officials. That wasn’t corruption alongside governance. That was the governance.

So dismissing Carvajal as “just a drug dealer” misses the point entirely. You can question his character all day. You cannot question whether he would know what Venezuelan intelligence capabilities were in 2020. He was inside that machinery. If you’re going to dismiss him, don’t hide behind “he’s a trafficker.” Admit you’re dismissing him for political reasons. But don’t pretend you can cite his criminal past while ignoring that his criminal past puts him directly inside the regime’s institutional knowledge.

CNN then cites a 2006 CIA memo as proof Venezuela couldn’t manipulate elections in 2020. Fourteen years later, cyber capabilities advanced globally. A 2006 assessment proves nothing about 2020. Ask the harder question: what actual evidence exists that Venezuela attempted this? CNN doesn’t answer that.
