Many non-Muslims seem to think that over two billion Muslims practise Islam to gain acceptance from Arabs or that one cannot be a true Muslim without submitting to Saudi Arabia.

This assumption makes little sense.

Most Muslims are not Arabs, have never been Arabs and have no desire to become Arabs. A Yorùbá Muslim is not Muslim to please an Arab. An Indonesian Muslim is not Muslim because of Saudi Arabia. A Pakistani Muslim does not pray five times a day seeking Arab approval.

Muslims practise Islam because they believe in Allah and His Messenger (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam), not because of any race, tribe or country.

Islam is not submission to Arabs.

Islam is submission to Allah.

Like, this audacity and supremacist mindset always amuses me.

We are Muslims first. We don't say Laa Illah Illah Lah, to now be browbeaten for one "Yoruba identity" constructed by missionaries in 20th century.

There is no deity worthy of worship to us except Allah.

Our religion rejects Holy Trinity,Polytheism, atheism, and even blatant ethnocentrism like "Yoruba First" all at once.

In our religion, there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or a Yoruba over an Igala except through piety.

The Prophet Muhammad SAW did not have companions like Bilal bin Rabah, (Abyssinian), Salman Al-Farsii (Persian), Abdullah bin Salam (Jewish),or Lubaynah (Roman) for us to be doing "Yoruba First" with you.

We don't go on Hajj, experience the universality of human kind among all races and tribes to do this rubbish with you.

It is why we are able to travel to any country and enter any mosque and are confident we can slot in like a glove, because we pray the same.

It's a universal religion. Not an ethnic one.

That is our identity.

If you object to this, we simply don't give a damn.

It's our religion, not yours.

I am first and foremost a Muslim. I am an adherent of Islam, an Abrahamic believer, and a Hanif before anything else. Only then am I Yorùbá.

To those who have made it their mission to question the loyalty of Yorùbá Muslims, you may continue your attacks. But know this: for a true Muslim, Islam will always come first. It precedes ethnicity, culture, and nationality because it is the primordial covenant with our Creator.

A Yorùbá Muslim is not conflicted in his identity. He was a Muslim in the divine decree long before he was conceived, and he entered the world as Yorùbá the day he was born to Yorùbá parents. These two identities are not rivals—they are perfectly compatible. One defines his eternal soul and purpose; the other shapes his language, culture, and earthly heritage. Both have their rightful place.

If any Yorùbá Muslim chooses, for whatever reason, to place ethnicity above Islam, then that person has failed to grasp the most fundamental principle of our faith: La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah), and nothing has precedence over Him. Such a person's reckoning is with Allah alone.

My identity is clear and unapologetic: Islam first. Always. Everything else follows in its proper order.

I swear by Allah that I have personally witnessed something like this directly. Even as a passerby, I felt deeply disturbed and saddened for the farmer. The yams were well grown, harvested, and piled in abundance, yet a Fulani herder deliberately guided his cows into the heap and began slicing the yams with his cutlass so the cows could feed from them more easily.

In a nation where such acts happen repeatedly, one cannot simply blame the natives who eventually fight back to protect their hard-earned properties and even their lives. Many farmers have been killed on their own farms by criminal Fulani herders and bandits. At least two members of my Jamā‘ah have personally been victims of Fulani attacks. One of my teachers was almost killed by Fulani bandits. I also know a family in Abeokuta whose daughter was abducted from their home, terribly abused, and huge ransom demanded and paid for her release.

All my experiences on this issue have been within Ogun State alone. So how exactly are people expected to look away in silence? Those who commit such atrocities are guided neither by humanity nor by faith.

The larger Fulani community must openly dissociate itself from these criminals, expose them, hand them over to law enforcement agencies, and never allow them safe haven within their communities. If this is not done, they unfortunately place themselves at risk of dangerous generalizations that threaten peaceful coexistence for everyone.

Godless criminals are unfit to live peacefully among decent human beings and cannot be allowed to continue using our forests as operational bases for terror, kidnapping, murder, and destruction. Government at all levels must end this madness before another Jos-like crisis is created in the Southwest.

We must be careful, however, not to allow legitimate anger to become hatred against an entire ethnic group. Justice must remain targeted at criminals and their collaborators alone. Innocent people must never be punished for crimes they did not commit. The path forward is justice, security, accountability, and peaceful coexistence under the rule of law.
