My origin story of how I went from a “trust the science” RN to telling people to use alternative & natural medicine whenever possible.
Before March 2020, I had never once seen a patient get intubated just because their oxygen number looked bad. We treated the person in front of us - if they were walking, talking, and not in distress, we didn’t sedate them and shove a tube down their throat to breathe for them.
Numbers were one piece of the picture, not the whole thing.
Then COVID hit and everything flipped overnight.
Suddenly we were intubating people who walked into the ER on their own, could hold a conversation, and weren’t gasping for air. The doctors said their low sats meant they were about to crash. It went against everything I’d been taught- treat the patient, not the numbers.
Visitors weren’t allowed, so we let them FaceTime their families right before we did it. I looked them in the eyes and told them it was temporary- we’d wake them in a few days and they’d be home in no time.
Right after the tube went in, we started Remdesivir.
For the first couple days it felt like we were doing something heroic.
Then the patients started dying. Multi-organ failure. The same people I’d joked with and reassured hours or days earlier were gone. I kept thinking, “How is this virus killing relatively young, healthy people this fast even with the best treatment we have?”
By day six I noticed something that made my stomach drop: the COVID patients who refused intubation, including elderly ones with a list of comorbidities, were doing fine. Not one of them died.
I started pointing it out to every doctor and nurse I worked with. They looked at me like I was crazy.
By day nine the picture got worse. Patients who refused the tube but still got Remdesivir were dying at roughly 50%. The explanation I kept hearing was “only the sickest get the drug.”
But that didn’t match what I was watching, what I was trained to see.
By day ten I was not so quietly telling every person I knew: if you end up in the hospital with COVID, do not consent to intubation or Remdesivir. Do not allow them to do that to your loved ones.
My ER kept doing both anyway. Even after the pattern was obvious to anyone who was actually in the rooms.
Later I found out hospitals were getting paid extra for COVID patients who were intubated, more if they got Remdesivir, and still more for every day spent in an ICU bed. Once you see the incentives, the refusal to change course stops looking like pure science.
I still can’t fully wrap my head around how fast the rules changed and how hard it was to get anyone to look at the actual results in front of us. I went from “trust the experts” to “watch what happens to the patients and decide for yourself.”
If you were on the front lines and saw something different, say so. If you weren’t, this is why a lot of us stopped automatically trusting the system and have dropped out of it.
I’m the villain and the hero of my own story and it’s hard to reconcile with either.
@texasrunnerDFW The difference is much more than 20 cents for premium fuel and we get 5% back on our Costco Citi Cards! Also, never waited longer than 6-7 minutes.
Can we PLEASE bring back cotton, colorful, comfortable clothes? Please. I’m so tired of the polyester, neutral, cropped shit. I want clothes that actually feel good and look like clothes. Bring back real clothes.
🚨 Tucker Carlson: “After this war, it’s impossible to say the Republican Party, Trump’s Republican Party, MAGA, is acting on behalf of the United States. It’s acting on behalf of Israel. And that’s just a fact… That is the opposite of America First.”
BREAKING: Nike is set to be removed from the S&P 100 after nearly 18 years.
The stock is now down almost 80% from its 2021 peak, turning one of the market’s most iconic consumer brands into one of its biggest recent disappointments.
@DrCarter96@Nike@DICKS Why are you still buying Nike in the first place? Haven’t bought one item in long years…The people they keep choosing to promote in their ads? No, thanks. Will not support a company who chose a trans person for International Women’s Day. And that’s just one example.
Charles Manson was crazy. That shouldn’t absolve him of any wrongdoing.
Jeffrey Dahmer was absolutely nuts. That shouldn’t be an excuse for what he did.
The insanity defense needs to be abolished.
Not a single person who commits horrible acts is of sound mind.
That’s no excuse.
Someone’s state of mind can never be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, nor should it be.
Their actions can.
That goes for Lindsay Clancy and everyone else.
After every kids' sporting event, parents think the team needs a snack. They don't need Goldfish at 7pm. They're going home to eat dinner in 15 minutes.
It's a small thing that becomes a habit. We all need to learn that hunger is actually okay. When we default to quick-hit calories (which is most snacks), it trains our brains and bodies to run on short blood sugar spikes. That pattern leads to much bigger problems down the road.
The reason why women are so miserable is that they have it too good and are bored. So they have to literally make up problems to satisfy their need for drama.
Social media was one of the biggest scams ever sold.
A perfectly happy woman can scroll Instagram and suddenly convince herself she’s living the wrong life.
She sees influencers traveling the world, wearing designer clothes, carrying $10,000 handbags and stepping onto private jets.
Suddenly her stable marriage feels boring.
Her husband feels “cheap.”
Her normal life feels like she settled.
Then she starts picking apart everything he does.
“He doesn’t take me anywhere.”
“He doesn’t spoil me.”
“He’s not ambitious enough.”
“He’s not like those men.”
Eventually, she starts wondering if she married the wrong man.
But here’s what she forgets:
She’s comparing her real life to someone else’s carefully manufactured highlight reel.
The vacations are curated.
The relationships are curated.
The bodies are edited.
The homes are staged.
The lifestyles are sponsored by men who rent these “influencers” aka escorts strategically presented for attention.
You are not watching reality.
You are watching a performance designed to keep you watching.
And comparison is the business model.
Because a woman who is content with what she has is harder to sell to.
But make her feel inadequate?
Now she needs the new handbag.
The new body.
The new vacation.
The new house.
The new lifestyle.
And eventually, maybe even a new husband.
They don't need to convince you that your life is terrible.
They only need to convince you that someone else’s life is better.
Then you’ll do the rest.
You’ll create the dissatisfaction yourself.
The algorithm profits from your insecurity, your comparison and your constant need for validation from strangers.
Stop comparing your real marriage to someone else's curated feed.
Be grateful for what you’ve built.
And before you let strangers on the internet convince you that your husband isn't enough, remember who actually lives that life with you.
Call me a radical but if we want America to be exceptional, then taxpayers who fund all the welfare should have more of a say in our elections than lifelong welfare users. Call me whatever you want but I think it’s nuts to give these two groups the same voting power. One group will always just vote for the person or party that promises them the most "free" stuff that the rest of us pay for.
I think we’ve normalized people bringing their dogs absolutely everywhere and I’m ready to say it. Grocery stores, restaurants, shopping carts, you name it. I love dogs, but unless it’s an actual service animal, your dog doesn’t need to come inside every business you visit.
Wives ARE status symbols.
I’m sorry that so many of you can’t handle that truth, but it’s just the way it is.
Men with wives are automatically seen as more trustworthy and stable.
Men with hot, well cared for wives are automatically seen as more affluent and powerful.
A wife is the most powerful status symbol there is because anyone can make payments.
But you succeed in making a woman thrive? You provide what she needs not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too? And it shows because she loves you back and is willing to express that physically?
You’ve won.
A wife is an outward representation, she reflects what few other things can, her husband’s character.
New York City will require IDs to prove you live in the city in order to shop in the city owned grocery stores. So you need an ID to shop in the city’s stores, but it would be racist to require an ID to vote. Perfection.
I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.
