@shreedaisy Tamil at least has a long history of such tautological expressions, presumably originating from the colonial period, the famous ones being NaduCentre and GateVaasal, where words for the same thing in both languages are strung together.

The distinguished Tamil writer Jeyamohan has written a brilliant essay on Savarkar and his ideas. It is the best thing I have read on the subject; historically informed, wide-ranging, and scrupulously non-polemical.
Anyone with any interest at all in modern Indian history and/or contemporary Indian politics should read this essay. The translation is by Iswarya V.

It was a glorious translation of a work by one of the most important Tamil writers of our time. Strongly recommend @priyamvada_ram White Elephant for anyone wanting an insight to contemporary Tamil literature.
Incredibly happy that my translation of Jeyamohan's Vellai Yaanai/White Elephant has been chosen for the 2023 PEN/Heim Translation Grants. I think it's the first time ever a work from Tamil (& perhaps any South Indian language) has made it. Big thank you to the jury @PENamerica
