A covert narcissist will systematically attack someone for no other reason than envy or perceived competition.
When the target or a victim sticks up for themselves and exposes the covert narcissist for smear campaigning them with false accusations in their attempt to destroy their victim out of envy for perceived competition, the covert narcissist will then turn around and behave offended like they are the ones being mistreated by the victim who is only defending themselves for being attacked for no good reason by the narcissist.
Watch out for this pattern. This is how the innocent victims end up being mobbed by the narcissist and the narcissist’s flying monkeys. Once the covert narcissist attacks their victim, they do everything they can to vilify their innocent victim. And this pattern oftentimes occurs over the course of a number of years. The covert narcissist will target someone they perceive as competition or someone they are envious of and begin stalking them systematically over the course of one or two years, even attempting to make friends with their victim before they blatantly attack
