@DrRobbieErskine@amit_pawa@ashwani_doc@ButterflyNetInc Haha. Ahhhhhh so nice to hear a boss say that... Put them more proximal to avoid kinking at the wrist, none of this transfixing nonsense... Music to our ears! Just need to get you reaching for it for cannulation next...
@DrRobbieErskine@amit_pawa@ashwani_doc@ButterflyNetInc We teach OOP for all vascular access... There's evidence out there it's quicker to learn and we feel it's a very simple technique, and once you've got the (quickly) got the hang of it it's basically guaranteed success, whereas even the best have occasional failures with IP
@DrRobbieErskine@amit_pawa@ashwani_doc@ButterflyNetInc IP is definitely a very satisfying technique when done well! We find you have to have the probe lined up bang in the middle of the vessel and have the skill to always insert the needle lined up perfectly with the middle of the probe...
@amit_pawa@ButterflyNetInc Nice demo of what we call the "walking in" technique. Looking forward to covid limits lifting enough to get started again...
@DrRobbieErskine@amit_pawa@ashwani_doc@ButterflyNetInc Would argue you have more possible directions of adjustment with OOP technique - probe back and forth, side to side, needle forwards and backwards, side to side, up and down. IP lovely in skilled hands but slower learning curve for beginners with US.
@StevenBradleyMD@amit_pawa@ButterflyNetInc One of our golden rules for US guided access... IGNORE FLASHBACK! The end point is seeing the tip of the needle established in the middle of the vessel, not flashback of blood from a vessel you've hit somewhere along the journey into/out of/through your target!
@gommed@GongGasGirl Should be illegal to not use US for art lines... easier (after effective training!), quicker, far less traumatic for patients and arteries, fewer 3am changes on critical care as more proximal siting results in less kinking, etc etc etc!
@SimSpaceBristol @NorthBristolNHS Thanks so much for having us @SimSpaceBristol! The perfect space to spread the US-guided vascular access love! Looking forward to the next one 👍
Really enjoyed our first course back at @NorthBristolNHS after a few years touring the region. Happy to have a new home! Huge thanks as always to the amazing faculty and to everyone for coming along... hope you enjoyed it! #vascularaccess#firsttimeeverytime#dontloseyourtip
It’s that time again... 🐓 Getting ready for the course at our new home at Southmead Hospital @NorthBristolNHS tomorrow! #vascularaccess#firsttimeeverytime
