A message from the family and attorneys of Sami Hamdi regarding his political detention in the US:

We encourage everyone to speak to the press, share the story, post on social media, and do whatever you can to amplify what is happening.

Br. Sami, is a British journalist and political analyst who was visiting Muslim communities in the U.S.

He was abducted by ICE at SFO on Sunday morning — before boarding a domestic flight — while traveling from one CAIR Banquet to another in Tampa, targeted at the urging of Islamophobic, right-wing online voices like Laura Loomer and Amy Mek.

Importantly, Br. Sami has always had lawful immigration status through a valid visa and multiple past entries into the United States.

He is currently being detained at Golden State Annex in California. We know he is safe, and his legal team — made up of CAIR-CA, MLFA, and attorney Hassan Ahmad — are determining next steps.

His only “crime” was speaking out, like Mahmoud, Rumeysa, Leqa, Mohsen, and others before him.

***It seems he may not get to appear before a judge till next month and may unjustly be imprisoned until then, effectively making him a political prisoner. His lawyers have not yet been able to access him. ***

Our most urgent call is simple and clear: ICE must release him immediately.
