SCOTUS affirmed in US v. Rahimi that domestic violence offenders ๐๐ค ๐ฃ๐ค๐ฉ have a right to own firearms.
While there is still work to be done, today marks a significant step forward in our work to create a safe place for survivors to exist.
In 2022, seven lives were lost in our county due to intimate partner violence.

SafeHavenโs High Risk Team case managers will respond 24/7 to victims hospitalized at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth and provide information about SafeHaven resources, including case management, emergency shelter, counseling, legal assistance and more.

Our next step at this point is to continue the lifesaving work we already do every day. Secondly, we will rally with other domestic violence partner agencies throughout the state, under the guidance of @TexasCouncilFV, and formulate a formal response to move forward.
As Tarrant Countyโs sole advocacy organization for survivors, the ruling by the 5th Circuit yesterday is disheartening. Our mission is to keep survivors safe and hold offenders accountable; the ruling makes our mission even more challenging.
From academic research and the work we have done for 45+ years in Tarrant County, we know that possession of a firearm by a known domestic violence offender raises the lethality risk of a victim ๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐ฎ.
