Some observations from meetings with a bunch of young builders in SF in the last ~month:

- the kids are absolutely cracked. high agency, high confidence, highly technical but also savvy, strong curiosity to meet new people and learn new things
- there appears to be a lot of fluidity between domains. Met a kid who is part of a leading college blockchain club, currently interning at frontier lab, but have primarily been doing robotics research for last ~3 yrs. No intent to graduate from college
- talent density is real. Companies here are attracting the smartest kids from all over the world. Met multiple kids who were top 0.1% from their countries, attended top US tech colleges on full scholarships, and now working at startups
- making money does not seem to be a motivating factor or relevant concern. Perhaps this is just sampling bias, but everyone I met was simply following their curiosity.

Perhaps this is just a sign of the times. Frontier Labs + startups are flush with cash, and have essentially unlimited willingness to pay for top talent.

Also interesting to observe the evolving role of college and our educational institutions writ large. Its been obvious that colleges provide minimal educational value, and the sell has been "the network" & meeting like-minded individuals.

As a cracked 20yo, are you more likely to meet like-minded individuals at Berkeley or Palantir?

Fair actually. Makes it affordable for startups with little revenue. But honestly how will it be implemented. Are companies willing to share their revenue with third party before they are required to disclose it.

Honestly, what makes open models great is that they’re open. Not the fact that they’re cheap. So companies will probably resort to self hosting. Or maybe even trusted, perhaps US based, companies will host models for a price.

@audrlo For (a), are you suggesting that, just like any person can build their own software due to AI, there will be a similar revolution for hardware, where a person can create gadgets tailored to them? Hard to wrap head around but maybe we need a factory that builds custom gadgets?
