βPeople are always angry at anyone who chooses very individual standards for his life; because of the extraordinary treatment which that man grants to himself, they feel degraded, like ordinary beings.β
- Friedrich Nietzsche.
Adversity gives life meaning. A problem to solve, an obstacle to overcome. To rejoice in your strength. Without adversity life has little to no meaning. Life becomes boring and mundane, which becomes a type of adversity of its own. That is why those who are born in prosperity or who get lucky are depressed. Because they have no real adversity to overcome, and they never did overcome a great obstacle in the past. It is tragic to be born poor and stay poor, it is also tragic to be born rich and never taste poverty. Life is about contrast. Dirt poor to filthy rich. Only when you've tasted both sides can you truly appreciate it.
"The tragedy in the lives of great men often lies not in their conflict with the times and the baseness of their fellow men, but rather in their inability to postpone their work for a year or two. They cannot wait."
- Nietzsche.
"One must have a good memory to be able to keep the promises one has given. One must have strong powers of imagination to be able to have pity. So closely is morality bound to the quality of the intellect."
- Nietzsche
βLet us toast to animal pleasures, to escapism, to rain on the roof and instant coffee, to unemployment insurance and library cards, to absinthe and good-hearted landlords, to music and warm bodies and contraceptives... and to the "good life", whatever it is and wherever it happens to be.β
- Hunter S. Thompson.
There's nothing wrong with having shiny object syndrome (or being a jack of all trades) as long as you're doing it because you genuinely want to do it. It is a problem when you expect something in return, that is money. Can't earn money being an opportunity slut (and not in a good way). You have to learn to say no often.
Life would be much better if we actually knew the day we would die, and soon. The uncertainty of life creates hope, hope of a better alternative, that things might be better, that this is not it. And this is what creates fear, the ultimate obstacle of living a great life.
βNot every end is the goal. The end of a melody is not its goal,Β and yet if a melody has notΒ reached its end, it has not reached its goal.β
- Friedrich Nietzsche.
