As illustrated by this long quote, Sagan’s writings were so important to explaining the need for science in the 80’s & 90’s. “Science Under Siege” by @MichaelEMann & @PeterHotez is even more relevant to our current need to understand the threat to science today! Please read!
And still thousands of brain washed tourists are flying in every day in their gas guzzling air machines to enjoy what is to many hell and further fueling the climate crisis
New study estimates the risk of triggering an #AMOC shutdown as >10% if the world ramps down emissions to net zero by 2060, and 80% for a high emissions path.
It’s based on one model, but is plausible based on overall knowledge on how fragile AMOC is.

McGuire. “I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private"
"In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse"
"The world needs to know how bad things are going to get before we can hope to start to tackle the crisis.”

A common sentiment at the funeral for Khamenei was incandescent rage at the American leadership that authorized his assassination, but a refusal to hold average Americans collectively responsible for the crime
Peasants of the Russian Empire, photographed between 1909 and 1915. These images are not colorized. They were captured more than a century ago using an early three-color photographic process that produced remarkably lifelike color.
These photographs were created by Russian photographer Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, one of the pioneers of color photography.
Between 1909 and 1915, with the support of Tsar Nicholas II, he traveled more than 10,000 miles across the Russian Empire, documenting its people, landscapes, and everyday life before the empire disappeared forever.
Because color film had not yet been invented, Prokudin-Gorsky photographed each scene three times in rapid succession using blue, green, and red filters. When the three glass-plate negatives were later combined, they produced remarkably lifelike color images. It was one of the most advanced photographic techniques of its time, which is why these photographs still look surprisingly modern today.
These images were taken during the final years of Imperial Russia. Most of the people pictured were peasants, who made up about 80 percent of the empire’s population. They lived in wooden villages, farmed small plots of land, and relied on traditions that had changed little for generations. Within just a few years, the First World War, the Russian Revolution of 1917, and the Civil War would transform the country forever. Many of the villages, churches, customs, and ways of life seen in these photographs would disappear in the decades that followed.
After fleeing Russia following the Revolution, Prokudin-Gorsky took many of his glass negatives with him. In 1948, the Library of Congress purchased the collection from his heirs. Decades later, digital technology accurately combined the three filtered exposures, allowing millions of people to see some of the world’s earliest true color photographs much as Prokudin-Gorsky intended more than a century ago.
💢 The death toll from Israeli attacks increased by 4 Palestinians in Gaza on Saturday, as Israel pressed its continued violations of the ceasefire, Maan reported, citing medical sources.
🔸 Hudhayfa Hussein al-Hawajri was killed and 4 others wounded in an Israeli strike on a gathering of people near the Abu Sharkh roundabout, west of the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza.
🔸 Mohammed Najib Ashour was killed and others wounded earlier in a drone strike on a group of people on al-Muraja Street, near the Asqoula junction, southeast of Gaza City.
🔸 The bodies of two men missing since Thursday were recovered from Beit Lahiya in the north: Bilal Hussein Khamis Abu Rabih, 46, a strawberry farmer, and Hamza Imad Jihad Hamdouna, 20. A third man remains missing.
Israel has continued near-daily attacks in Gaza despite the ceasefire that took effect in October, with more than 1,050 Palestinians killed since the truce began.
