So it looks very much as if Srivatsan Mannivannan’s whole persona and life used during his election campaign was based upon a total lie. As for his crowdfunding to try to obtain his visa fees that’s just despicable.
Happy Hallowe’en 🍁🎃
“There’s drink an’ daffin’, sang an’ dance
And ploys and kisses get their chance,
But Lachlan, man, the place I see
Is whaur the auld kist used tae be
And the lichts o’ Hallowe’en in France!”
Violet Jacob (1863-1946) wrote the poem Hallowe’en after the death of her son at the Battle of the Somme. It was published in 1921 in her book ‘Bonnie Joann, and other poems’. Jim Reid set the poem to music.
The poem is written from the perspective of a bothy man in the North East, looking around the bothy and lamenting the absence of his fellow worker who had died.

Did this Scottish folksong inspire Bob Dylan? Dylan is believed to have taken inspiration from “Tramps and Hawkers” when he wrote “I Pity the Poor Immigrant,” which appeared on his 1967 album John Wesley Harding.
As we approach International Women's Day, Iona Fyfe has spoken about being trolled on Twitter and slated for speaking Scots. It really is depressing that women are still not allowed to have opinions in 2023! But Iona won't be silenced! https://t.co/bCukFsXH9e via @pressjournal
3/ I appreciate some of this is parody or just said to get a rise. But if you look at the timelines of people who champion Scots - especially women such as Iona Fyfe and fellow Herald columnist Len Pennie - you will see the abuse is out of hand.
