This is the moment for the WNBA. Not because of Dijonai Carrington and Sophie Cunningham.
Leadership is what is going to get the WNBA through this transgender issue.
We're talking about it today in a special weekend edition of The Big Story.

Mark Walter sells the Lakers to Bob Iger and the brother of President Trump's son-in-law for $12 billion.
Something's fishy.
We're taking a deeper dive in special edition of SportsWrap Shorts.

You don't get to speak for me. I gave a plausible theory based on previous actions taken by Trump and those government agencies acting on his behalf.
You don't want to address the substance of my theory, so you go "TDS" or something else that doesn't apply to me.
Got it.
Have a nice day sir.
So an interesting theory to float when it comes to this Mark Walter sale of the Lakers to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner.
Walter is being investigated by the SEC. Does it seem plausible that Walter is being squeezed by Trump's SEC?
Mark Walter doesn't strike me as the "flip-a-franchise" kind of guy when you consider his ownership tenure of the Dodgers.
Think about this. He sells to a Kushner a week after the FIFA debacle falls apart.
Watch to see if the sale to Kushner magically makes his SEC troubles disappear.
It bears watching... and reporting.
This Lakers sale to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner is breathtaking.
Mark Walter basically made 2.5 billion dollars in less than one year.
How does this change (if at all) the direction of the Los Angeles Lakers?
We saw 5 greats inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. But who will go in for the 2027 class? @JasonCole62 joined SportsWrap today. The HOF Selector walked us through the difficult process for 2027 and beyond.

The media is so laughable sometimes...
Watching CNN this morning and how quickly the narrative shifts.
For the last month, all I've heard is:
"Democratic Socialists are taking over the party."
"Can Democratic Socialists win in November?"
Francesca Hong loses her primary in Wisconsin last night... and the narrative this morning on CNN is:
"Has the Democratic Socialist movement lost it's momentum?"
No... it's called every electorate in every state being different.
A democrat in Wisconsin is not the same as a Democrat in New York or California. Even a Democrat in Michigan is different than a Democrat in Wisconsin.
Value systems are different. Lived experiences are different.
Stop treating Democrats like a monolith.
They're not.
Sincerely,
A Democrat turned Independent years ago
If you think this video is about Jose Caballero… you definitely missed the plot. Especially given the context of the work of the home plate umpire in the game.
Is anyone else surprised this clown did this?
Jose Caballero takes too long getting to first base on a walk and is called for a pitch clock violation making Austin Wells start his at bat with an 0-1 count
This guy thinks it’s all about him.
I was just on @CBSNews The Takeout with @MajorCBS. I was there to talk about the WNBA - what else.
I was introduced as the head of @xx_xyathletics, "an advocacy organization."
Correction 1: We are an athletic clothing brand. We are not a non-profit. We are a business. A brand. And brands influence the culture. Nike takes all sorts of positions. The difference between us and Nike is we mean what we say. We stand up for women when it is hard. When there is no upside in it for us. Nike takes their supposed stances as a marketing play ("woke capitalism"). And they go the opposite direction when the wind blows that way.
He then said our mission was to "keep trans out of women's sports."
Correction 2: No. Our mission is to stand up for female athletes, not just pretend to like Nike -- a brand that makes money off of "championing" female athletes while treating them with astonishing disregard. (See: Mary Cain, Alyson Felix for examples.)
We don't care if women who identify as trans (think they are men) play in women's sports. We don't care if women who declare a non-binary identity play in women's sports. Women like Nikki Hiltz. Or Layshia Clarendon. They are women. It's all good!
We don't want men in women's sports. Not "trans identified" men. Not DSD men. MEN. No men in women's sports.
80% of Americans agree with us.
This isn't culture war stuff. This is 80% of Americans being normal and 20% living in a misogynistic fantasy land where men can declare themselves women and take our privacy and opportunities away.
Thank you for having me but just needed to correct the record on my intro.
Between her impromptu presser yesterday and videos like this, someone in PR with the Fever and/or the WNBA has gotten the message through to @sophaller.
But saying all these things and saying to be nice to people doesn’t change the fact that she called @danawhite a “friend” and “amazing guy” (after he slapped his wife in public) and taking selfies with unapologetic transphobe @Riley_Gaines_.
You’ve already told us your values system.
Just for the record for all the women out there. This f’in clown show of a human being @North2North believes any woman with smaller breasts or that is flat-chested is a male.
Seriously? You can’t make this stuff up in its degree of stupidity.
I really don’t mean to be rude here…
But who on earth is walking around saying:
“I really hope that Sophie Cunningham writes a tell-all book someday.”
Nobody cares what you have to say unless it’s the GOP and you are saying something to dehumanize trans people.
Aside from that?
Nobody cares.
