Voters, election workers and their families were threatened because of it.

Now its distributor is pulling both the movie and the book, admitting the narratives were fabricated.

There was a time in this nation’s history when White men were almost never found guilty for lynching men of color, for sexually assaulting women of color. When White men started to be convicted for these actions, their segregationist peers reacted with fury. Claimed it was a sad day in American history. Rallied around the convicted. Called the White judges and juries biased. Framed the trials as rigged. Classed the convictions as purely political. Attacked the legal system. Sound familiar?

One of the reasons they are banning antiracist history books is because they don’t want people to learn how they constructed racism. Because the more we learn how they constructed racism, the more we learn how to deconstruct it and build equitable and just and democratic societies for all people. The more we build equitable and just and democratic societies, the more people of color resist their racist efforts to take us back and the more White people join in that antiracist resistance because they realize equitable and just and democratic societies benefit them more than a deeply unequal society ruled by fear-mongering fascists and tyrants spreading bigotry of all kinds to divide and conquer us.
