Today, school resource officers at Dr. Phillips High School were notified that a student on campus was armed with a firearm.

Officers quickly identified and located the student, 17-year-old, Joshua Brown, in his classroom. When he attempted to flee, SROs intervened and safely took him into custody.

A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from Brown’s backpack, which was in his possession at the time.

Brown was arrested and is facing charges of possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, and resisting arrest without violence.

Chief Smith stated, “This is exactly how it’s supposed to work. Our officers acted quickly on a tip from the community.”

This remains an active investigation. In order to protect the integrity of the case, no additional information is available at this time.
