Most conversations about war happen at altitude.
We’re interested in the ground level —
where decisions are made,
consequences are felt,
and people carry the weight long after the moment passes.

When the war kicked off in Iran, I predicted what we'd see in our feeds. Sadly, our larger media space is a witch's brew of misdirections and outright deception that does everything other than provide strategic clarity for consumers. It's dangerous, and we are going to unpack this in the coming days.

Arlington County Police are on scene of a reported negligent discharge/shooting at a federal office building on the 1200 block of South Clark Street in Crystal City.
A blood trail and evidence of a shooting was found on the third floor of the building, however, no victims were found.
Police continue to investigate; information is limited at this time… h/t @matthewyoung31
If you’re looking for someone to dunk on the @DeptVetAffairs , I’m not your guy. I’m grateful for those tackling an incredibly difficult problem.
But respect doesn’t mean avoiding hard questions.
Are we getting better at preventing veteran suicide, or just counting it?

@TheBeatenZone is a great show! John Mark has been doing a great job at diving deeper into the untold history of GWOT. He dives deep into the backstory of the conventional #Army during that period of conflict. Thanks again for giving us a voice.

From enlisted Marine to Forterra CEO, Josh Araujo has kept one objective in sight: keep warfighters out of harm’s way.
In the latest episode of @TheBeatenZone, Josh sits down with growth lead John Mark Wilson to discuss combat, leadership, and why autonomous mission systems should take on the battlefield’s most dangerous jobs.

I don’t like to talk about stuff like this, but felt a need to take this one on.
The VFW and Congress need to work together and abandon the worst parts of the Washington, DC playbook.
Spoke with @ChristyMatino about Memorial Day and the importance of storytelling for Veterans as they carry their experiences into civilian life. To learn more about The Beaten Zone, check out the link threaded below.

New episode of The Beaten Zone is live.
I sat down with my friend and former Army teammate Stefan Lockton for a conversation about Iraq, Afghanistan, leadership under pressure, and the kind of quiet professionalism soldiers never forget.
Stefan is the real deal. No drama. No ego. Just a steady leader who cared deeply about his troops and still serves today by helping prepare the next generation.
If you care about combat leadership and honest veteran stories, I think you’ll get a lot out of this one.

Please join Chairman @RepBost, his wife Tracy, and our entire Committee in praying for VA employee Nicholas Crews' family and friends following this awful tragedy.
Our hearts are with the Jasper community as they grieve the loss of Nicholas Crews, a VA social worker who tragically lost his life this week. To the family, friends, and colleagues of Nicholas Crews, we are so sorry for your loss. No words can bring him back, but his name and legacy will live on.
Received an advance copy of @KatrinaManson’s book Project Maven: A Marine Colonel, His Team, and the Dawn of AI Warfare. I believe it is one of the most important books you'll read this year.
Looking forward to discussing this book with Katrina next week. You can check out our conversation on our YouTube page next week when we release it.

Um.. you can add the rest of his comment, @NatashaBertrand .
She is implying Secretary Hegseth did not offer any sympathy and was crass in his response. His full quote can be seen here.

I worked in the White House.
Clarity is not the primary objective of wartime political messaging.
Every public statement is shaped by legal, intel, escalation, political, and market guardrails.
By the time it reaches you, it’s engineered.
That’s not incompetence. That’s statecraft.
In a media environment flooded with outrage and hot takes, that ambiguity becomes combustible.
Question what’s said.
But also question what isn’t.

War is happening.
Missiles. Drones. Retaliation.
But when we focus on the booms, we lose sight of the most important questions.
This episode isn’t about taking sides.
It’s about the war behind the war.
