@shigatsuyouka I think it applies to both TV and Lit. The idea is that art made solely to engage a viewer is shallow and pointless. TV is the easier antagonist bc the network (and streaming) model is geared specifically towards viewership rather than artistic quality.
@strawbphilosphy@falyrionient Exactly this. A lot of contemporary fiction doesn't have the symbolic/mythological depth that ppl like JRRT or GRRM bring to the table. Most of it reads like novellized comic books.
@SamBaudinette I agree. I think Le Guin's work is often more utopic than escapist. The best sci-fi/fantasy novels are the ones that show you something about the real world and how things "could be" rather than just removing you from it entirely. Her Hainish books dothis really well imo.
