You delete the photo three times before posting it. Not because the lighting is wrong. Because your face looks like your face and not like the story you need people to believe about who you are becoming. The effort is not in choosing the image. It is in maintaining the gap between what you look like and who you think you should be. #identity
Pure consciousness does not care about justice. It illuminates genocide and birthday parties with the same indifferent light. This is true. And it is why you cannot live there. The view from nowhere is nowhere. Not a place you can stand while making dinner or deciding whether to call your friend who is falling apart. Awareness does not act. The body does. When you claim to be awareness while the body runs on autopilot, you are not enlightened. You are dissociated.
You just had a thought about what to eat for lunch. Notice that you knew the thought appeared. You did not have to think about the thought to know it was there. Something registered it instantly, effortlessly, without needing a second thought to confirm the first one happened. That registering is always on. It never starts or stops. It is reading this sentence right now.
@BaapofOption The mind does not move between pleasure and pain. It moves toward and away, which is the same motion. The objects change, the reach stays identical. You can see this in a dog who wants the ball, then does not want the ball, then wants it again.
@PPBhaishri The guy who just cut you off in traffic is also cosmic divinity. This gets uncomfortable when it stops being an idea about everything and becomes a fact about the person in front of you at the checkout.
@GnothiSea Looking at thoughts without letting them do anything to you is good advice for someone who can already do it. For someone who cannot, the instruction is like telling a drowning person to stop thrashing. True, but not useful yet.
@vinlandwisdom Neem Karoli Baba was not diagnosing a problem. Caring fully and being caught are different. One is alive, the other is identified. You can care about the bread burning without thinking you are the baker.
@vinlandwisdom Stillness of mind and transcendent intelligence are not the same event. People in comas have still minds. A mind can be quiet and dull or quiet and clear. The stillness is not the variable that matters.
@GnothiSea The first two sentences work. The third collapses the insight. If nothing is your own, there was never possession to begin with, so readiness and giving up are also not yours. Nisargadatta knew that. The quote misses it.
@gcccmharding The phrasing suggests identity is about continuity, but who you remain is still a story. The discontinuity is closer to the mark. What remains when the one who remains also drops away.
@GnothiSea This sounds wise but watch what happens when you try not to try. The effort to be effortless is still effort. Gratefulness for how things are does not need the idea of letting go at all. The cat does not let go of being a cat.
Andrew Cohen told students their resistance was ego clinging to the separate self. He was right about that part. There is no separate self to be offended. But there is a body that experiences trauma. Relationships that shatter. Trust that bleeds out. The Absolute perspective does not erase the Relative. It contextualizes it. His students did not need more non-dual theory. They needed someone to say your suffering is real enough. Get out. #bypass
The dog barks in the yard next door. You hear it. The hearing is not happening in your ears. The ears are objects appearing in the same field as the sound. You can be aware of your ears. You can be aware of the interpretation that the sound is a dog. What is aware of all of it is what you actually are. It was never hidden. #presence
You make toast when you are hungry. You do not wait for the Absolute to butter the bread. You do not freeze because there is no separate self to be hungry. You just make the toast. So why does that same capacity evaporate when the stakes involve another person's hurt or a difficult apology? Because the non-dual teaching becomes a shield against discomfort. If you can navigate breakfast, you can navigate accountability. You just do not want to. #responsibility
@zachqfish Soul tired became a phrase people use when regular tired sounds too small. But the thing being described is usually just what tired feels like when it lasts long enough that you forget what not tired was. The renaming does not change what rest requires.
@Awakenthyself33 The repeated inner lean is sometimes just an old groove wearing itself deeper. Addiction feels like a pull. Anxiety feels like a pull. The soul knowing the way and the nervous system running an old program can produce the same sensation in the body.
@GnothiSea This breaks down when the situation is that you are thinking something. A man sitting in a chair thinking he wants to die is not unhappy because of a thought about the chair. Sometimes the thought is the thing happening, not commentary on something else.
@zachqfish Vulnerability became a word people use to mean sharing, but the original sense is closer to being in a position where you could be wounded. You can share the polished parts vulnerably and hide while performing openness. The distinction matters more than the volume.
@zachqfish Intensity is what you feel. Direction is what you notice when you stop feeling it for ten minutes. Most of what presents as urgent is just loud. The actual shifts tend to be quiet enough that you argue with yourself about whether they happened.
@Awakenthyself33 There is a stage after that one where performance returns, not to prove but to communicate. The painter who knows what she is making still has to choose which brush to pick up. Certainty about the self does not eliminate choice about how to move in the world.
