I've learned so many irl lessons from the game of chess, and today, I was reminded of one of the most important:
"It's only a fool that gives up early."
[And no, this is not fiction]
So, I was playing a game today, and I like to do this thing where I start off with a queen trade (basically sacrificing my queen to take out my opponent's queen).
Sometimes, I deliberately take the queen off the board just to test my strength without it
thereby putting me and my opponent in a position where we have to work harder to win (there’s a lesson in that, one I’m not ready to expand on right now).
Back to the game:
After a few exchanges, I started making serious mistakes and losing pieces quickly.
Before long, I had lost most of my strongest pieces. At that point, I thought I was done for.
But I have a bad habit of not giving up in a game.
I always see it through to the end, no matter how disadvantaged I am.
Why?
Because I could still win.
Or I could get a draw.
Or maybe even win by beating the clock.
That's how I always think.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: it’s not over until it’s over.
So I kept playing.
A few pawns and my bishops were all I had left. My opponent still had his rooks, some bishops, and a knight.
As the game went on, he started making mistakes. And before long, he only had a few pawns left.
See how quickly things changed
I now had the advantage.
Guess what he did? He quit the game. Lol.
But here’s the lesson I took away:
I could have quit too when I was disadvantaged, but I kept playing and I found an 'opportunity' to win.
Oftentimes in life, we reach a point where we’ve lost so many "pieces" that we think the game is over. But life isn’t always straightforward. Losing everything doesn’t mean it’s over.
I’ve seen people fall to zero in this space and climb back up.
Yet every day, there are still people who give up on Web3.
Every time I see it, I just laugh.
I've failed many times, myself.
But the problem is that I've already seen what's possible, and I can't stop till I come into that reality too.
Bros, we haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s possible.
Things can change
Opportunities can open up
Anything can happen
Keep testing yourself and building your strategy
As @SamuelXeus would say: "We can do great things from a small place."
so even when you're disadvantaged and seem to have lost everything, don't stop playing, you can still win
Because, at the end of the day, the only person who truly loses is the person who gives up
It's a new month, and we're still locked in on our mission of achieving manifold wealth in God's fold.
