So what is the alternative? Early in my career I was a perma bear. It doesn’t make sense to be right once a decade for a short period of time. At the end of the day I will invest in the whole market here in America. If that doesn’t work out then everyone is screwed. If that happens I am no worse off than the guy who never invested
@JamesAnderson88@Retiredat40HQ Me too! NEOS taxable bridge account. IRA/401k growing u touched for 20 more years. Roth conversions during the low MAGI years.
I grew up as a pizza delivery guy and a vehicle placement technician (Valet parking). So I understand how much tips mean. In craft coffee shops I always tip. Quick serve usually small. I know that the person at a quick serve didn’t really do anything special but a few bucks means more to them than me.
@Stealthct_Storm No. But there will be areas where people lose there sense of worth because of AI and that could cause disruptions in society that could destroy us.
Start aggressively looking for another job immediately. Try to keep your attitude in check in the meantime. Wouldn’t leave unless it was absolutely unbearable. But even before that I would do an attitude check to make sure it wasn’t me making it worse. But as soon as you get another offer, take it and don’t look back.
@Olking07 We did Jr High School. But made them earn the money to buy it.
Still wish we waited.
Social media too, we should have waited longer.
Making the kids buy their phones was great. They never lost or broke them.
Fair enough. But there are no barriers to entry. 30 years ago there was no way to get an audience quickly or start a company with a bunch of AI agents. It still takes a great idea, hard work, and some luck but the fact that there is even potential to reach millions of people with your ideas now or spin up a shop and start selling something is incredible
While the traditional job market may be tough, there has never been a better environment for starting something on your own. With technology and social media today there is almost no barrier to entry if you have ideas and the ability to grind.
I left my last company 2 years ago. It was dysfunctional and I hated it there. In hindsight I learned a lot at that company and towards the end, my attitude was just as big of a problem as the company issues. When you are in a situation like this, you are much better off leaving on good terms and going somewhere that you are excited to be.
@nickgerli1 I follow the Boise ID market and I am seeing this. Prices for new homes are lower and lots of incentives as well. For now it seems like they are trying to hold price but at some point soon I think the builders are going to have to lower price and not fully rely on incentives.
What does a perfect day in retirement look like?
For me, a trail run up to a lake, fish for an hour, run down. Play some afternoon golf and hang with friends at night.
