HELLO.
Some of you might be new here. Where've you been all this time?
We're Caithness Broch Project, and we love brochs!
What are brochs, though? They're 40ft, multi-floored Iron Age towers, thought to be houses, found only in #Scotland.
AND WE WANT TO BUILD ONE!
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe by land.
Return visit as such a cool castle. Skylarks & curlew on walk in, fulmars nesting on cliffs and walls, hawk after rock doves, amazing geology and views. Talk of orca both north & south but I've not seen yet sadly.

Castle Sinclair Girnigoe from sea
Build in 1400s (possibly on older fortification), home to Earl of Caithness. Long mixed history with links to the St Clairs/Sinclairs, Rosslyn Chapel, Knights Templar, Orkney, and too much more for a tweet to cover. Cue Game of Thrones music...
What do you mean you don't own a bottle of broch-inspired #whisky yet thats preposterous
buy it
buy it now:

(£10 from each bottle goes towards the #bigbrochbuild yay!!)
Achcomhairle Broch. The field of the council/meeting.
Has the distinction of being nearly indistinct from the landscape, it having the impression of a thumb pressed into soft clay.
Scrabster Castle beside #WW2 Pillbox,Caithness (Scotland) It's thought there might be a broch underlying this medieval structure, which is thought to date to at least the 14th C. It may have even featured in the #Orkneyinga Saga! @TheBrochProject info/image turned into a mock-up
POV you're at the broch party and the guy with the crazy stones says "let's do that thing we do with these crazy stones" and then they just go right ahead and do the thing
WE MADE A BROCH-THEMED WHISKY
And every bottle purchased goes towards building A BROCH

An amazing document. One of the most amazing aspects is that it argues that the Picts were replaced by invading Scots. We now know this was nonsense and caused by a Viking invasion that destroyed the Pictish state … we then rebranded as Scots!
