Every app that gets past its first ten users sends the same three emails. Password reset. Receipt. Welcome.

Then it needs the other kind: the product update, the onboarding sequence, the note to everyone who signed up and never came back.

Most builders end up paying two providers to do that. Two domain setups, two dashboards, two bills.

We compared the six ways to send email from your app in 2026: your host's SMTP, Workspace, SES, the transactional APIs, the marketing platforms, and one that does both.

Three things from it:

Most free tiers are daily caps, not monthly. Resend is 3,000 a month but 100 a day. A launch day goes through that before lunch.

SendGrid's free tier is gone. Retired through 2025.

SES is the cheapest per message and a week of work. New accounts start in a sandbox at 200 a day, to verified addresses only.
