i think people are misunderstanding what happened to the skit industry.
at first, skits were easy money. you record with your phone, people laugh, followers grow, brands pay. for a while, that was enough. everybody was winning.
but skits have one problem nobody talks about: they finish you.
today you’re funny. tomorrow you must be funnier. next week you must trend again or people forget you. there’s no rest. no pause. no “I’ll come back later.” if you stop posting, the noise moves on.
so people started asking normal questions:
“how long can I keep doing this?”
“what happens when people stop laughing?”
“what do I fall back on?”
that’s when you see the pattern.
sydney didn’t stop skits because he failed, he saw that music business lasts longer than jokes.
carter efe noticed streaming pays consistently even when you’re not viral.
lively realized football fans argue every week with steady attention.
macaroni knew skits can’t replace movies forever.
comedy gave them the visibility, not security.
and once they made enough money and connections, it stopped making sense to keep chasing laughs every day.
these people didn’t leave because skits stopped working.
they left because they finally could afford to leave.
