@TheChildrensInn@NIH More than 3 decades later, the vision that helped inspire The Inn remains closely connected to NCI’s research mission: supporting the children and families whose participation makes advances in pediatric research possible. https://t.co/dW2UmnVwYY
@TheChildrensInn@NIH The Inn was designed to accommodate up to 36 families participating in NIH pediatric protocols, with approximately 60% of its residents expected to be children with cancer.
In June 1990, @TheChildrensInn opened after years of planning. Dr. Philip Pizzo, then chief of NCI’s Pediatric Branch, had first envisioned the idea 9 years earlier: a family-centered residence where children participating in research at @NIH could stay with their families.
Closing out #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth, NCI’s Dr. Jack Shern reflects on the challenges that remain—and why the collective efforts of researchers, clinicians, survivors & families give him optimism about the future of childhood cancer research. #CCAM
Childhood cancers are a leading cause of disease-related death in children, yet represent fewer than 1% of cancer cases—making high-quality, shareable data essential for progress. Learn how NCI is making an impact with the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative: https://t.co/ppzDOHSms1
This week, I will be joining @theNCI's Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI) Symposium to discuss our progress and what's next. By connecting data and the community, CCDI is building a learning health system that can speed discovery and improve outcomes. https://t.co/Q60NUpgiES
I've spent my career believing patients know their disease best. That's why @theNCI built Pediatric PRO-CTCAE, so kids with cancer can report symptoms directly to care teams. #CCAM https://t.co/S4Jw4MIdjt
As we mark the start of #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth, I am incredibly hopeful about how harmonized data and AI can accelerate progress for kids. Join us at the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative Symposium on Sept 17–18 to shape what comes next: https://t.co/HhEomL5gDV
As a parent and NCI Director, I was proud to see my daughter Julie Letai and her Olympic speedskating teammate visit @TheChildrensInn earlier this month. Sharing in some Olympic joy with the incredibly resilient kids and families at the Inn was the highlight of my week.
Christmas in July! 🎄☀️
Santa and Mrs. Claus traded their winter coats for a Hawaiian shirt and made Montgomery County their summer vacation spot.
Escorted by our Motor Unit, they treated the families at @TheChildrensInn at NIH to a day at Rio in Gaithersburg with shopping at @Target, carousel rides and dinner at @Silver_Diner, because even Santa deserves a summer vacation.

“Love reveals itself in many forms, especially in the hardest moments of care and compassion. The Children’s Inn provides important support to children who have been diagnosed with rare and serious diseases. Returning to @NIH@TheChildrensInn is a special reminder of warmth that exists here year-round thanks to the profound resilience of these young people and the dedication of those working to provide comfort, hope, and support during clinical trials. I wish them all a very happy Valentine’s Day," @FLOTUS@MELANIATRUMP
