“I have been grieving my entire life,” speaker says in front of crowd of hundreds outside police HQ. Says: we learned looting from people who stole land from indigineous folks. “Stop killing us.”
“Keep your masks soaked! It helps with the tear gas,” organizers remind the crowd. One protestor afdressing a police officer. “We’re unarmed but we’ve been tear gassed.” The officer, speaking calmly, says, “so have I.”
Freedom of the press is a central tenet of democracy, as is the right to peaceful protest. Local journalist, Kristen Graham was arrested for walking to her car past curfew despite wearing her press badge. This is an abuse of power.
Today, I covered the protests. Tonight, I was arrested for walking to my car past curfew. (Despite having a press exemption and wearing my press pass prominently.) I am ok. More soon.
