Yesterday, Shina slid into my WhatsApp DM again, for the umpteenth time.
I almost blocked him.
Instead, I archived our chat.
Here's why:
[A Thread on Permission Marketing and How You Can Apply It To BUILD BRAND LOYALTY And INCREASE SALES In Your Business]
Best of Day One
I have published several powerful articles on my newsletter over the years.
5.5k+ people have signed up to read them, and I also got an acquisition offer for my newsletter( I rejected).
This thread contains eight episodes that I believe you should read.
I have been looking at the conversations on Nigerian Twitter around nepo kids, and rich and old money / new money families, and I see people for and agaisnt, and one thing I have observed is most on each side consider themselves not privileged because they're not from such families.
You are so dead wrong if this is you.
Most of you are beyond privileged and do not even know it.
If you grew up in a home where your parents kept food on the table, sent you to good schools, you attended University, and you came out, you really are oblivious to how privileged you are in this country.
If you can walk into a restaurant and pluck down =N=9,000 on a glass of margarita, you have no idea how privileged you are to be in the 1%.
If you drive a car, ANY CAR, in this clime, my goodness, you have no idea how firmly plastered you are in the 1% privileged class.
Go outside to any major road junction anywhere you live and look around, observe the poverty around you, and the conditions most people live, and you'll see how you're easily in the 1%.
Most of you basically hang around people like yourselves so you can't see it and even when you see it, it does not register.
Most kids in this country have no way to escape poverty. Zero.
You? You can read, write, buy data and browse the internet, you can find remote work online, you can dream - even if it's to "japa" to the UK.
You are not Otedola's kids, you do not have the advantages they have, but duh, you have the resources to if not reach those heights yourself and if not yourself, you can have your kids reach it.
Count yourself lucky. Pray for your parents who had to deny themselves a far more stellar life to give you a fighting chance in this country and world. Be glad you were born in the time of the internet.
And stop feeling sorry for yourself because "I was not born rich".
Really? Are you sure?
Know this: you and DJ Cuppy are in the same class. Just that in that class, she is the 1% and you are the 99.
The class below yours? Thank your stars for your privilege of birth.
It's better to OVERESTIMATE the amount of work it will take to get the job done... than to underestimate it.
The latter will leave you stranded and performing below par.. while the former almost always GUARANTEES success.
Always do too much.
Whenever an appointment gets cancelled, it's easy to treat that window as "free time".
But free time = wasted time.
Steal the opportunity.
Switch to working on something else.
Time is a gift.
So don't waste it.
You know what nobody talks about?
The fact that you can take the best parts of a 9–5 and combine them with the best parts of freelancing - and build a business that finally pays you how you should be paid.
From 9–5s, take the structure, the contracts, the recurring pay, and the predictability.
From freelancing, take the freedom, the ownership, the scalability, and the earning potential.
Now mix those two together.
What you get is not just a hustle…
It’s not a gig…
It’s not a job…
It’s a real business that YOU control.
A business that signs clients on contracts.
A business that pays you monthly - like a salary - but at your rates.
A business that doesn’t need permission for time off.
A business that’s designed around your life - not someone else’s clock-in system.
We need to stop thinking it’s either chaos (freelance) or control (9–5).
You can have both.
The freedom of freelance.
The stability of a 9–5.
And the income of a CEO.
That’s the game.
