Binance bought about 1.2M shares at roughly $80 each in a private placement that closed Sept. 17.

The exchange had previously agreed to keep billions of dollars in USDC. It was also receiving monthly incentives tied to those holdings.

In the meantime, U.S. prosecutors are reportedly probing whether Binance knowingly allowed trades that violated Iran sanctions, months after the exchange said its Iran-linked exposure had fallen more than 97% and that its compliance controls had worked.

Binance previously pleaded guilty to sanctions and AML violations in 2023.
