'Every branch and twig and stone, Stands out separate, alone, This winter clarity compelling Each to its own single telling' Day without sun, written #OTD in 1930 by #NanShepherd First published in In the Cairngorms, 1934. Illus: June Allan
I've read The Weatherhouse, Quarry Wood, The Living Mountain and In The Cairngorms, but now I've finally gotten round to reading @thecpeacock biography of Nan herself. I'm learning a lot about Scottish literature in the process, I highly recommend it!
This time this day next month #UndercurrentBook publishes so I'm going to post this & hide out on the beach for a few days to settle my nerves - if you fancy it & can afford it preorder here: https://t.co/VCMvxqRAA2 & if you can't, please share & I might just send you a copy x

Never thought in my lifetime I'd utter the words "My memoir publishes next month!" I tell you what folks, there's a bloody storm brewing, cus I won't shut up about rural poverty, won't shut up about 2nd homes, won't shut up about the iniquity of this government #UndercurrentBook
Love the #Cairngorms? Curious about Nan Shepherd's experiences and how they're seen through a modern eye? Looking for something a bit deeper than a walking guidebook to help you get to know the hills?
This is the very book.
#NanShepherd in her conservatory. There's a painting of it by Barbara Balmer which, I think, captures her essence:
