According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than 3 million applicants filed the FAFSA by the end of January. By the same time last year, more than 6 million FAFSAs had been filed and processed. Some students may give up on going to college because of the FAFSA problems.

So much for the 2024-24 FAFSA launching on December 31, 2023. When I finally was able to click on the "Start New Form" button and complete two-factor authentication, the site gets stuck in the Roles section and the Continue button is grayed out with a message about soft launch.
