⚔️ First external PvP test highlights.
Yesterday, we had one of our first PvP playtests with an MMORPG Veteran and put some of our combat systems through real player combat.
There's still a long road ahead, but seeing real players fight inside a world you've been building for months is a special feeling.
One thing we've learned from years of playing games like Ultima Online, Chivalry 2, and other PvP-focused titles:
Combat only starts becoming real when another human is trying to beat you.

❄️ Frostbound Robe added to The Crownless.
Not every warrior marches into battle wearing steel.
Some arrive wrapped in frost, carrying powers far more dangerous than armor.
As we continue expanding character customization, more robes and cloaks are joining the world, allowing players to create identities that reveal less and inspire more questions.
The world keeps growing ⚔️

🧙 Mage Robe added to The Crownless.
In old-school MMORPGs, seeing a robe in the distance often raised more questions than answers.
Mage?
Healer?
Crafter?
A veteran PvPer hiding powerful armor underneath?
Sometimes the most dangerous players weren't the ones wearing the heaviest armor.
With robes and cloaks now joining the world, character identity and customization continue to expand ⚔️

⚔️ The first robe has entered the world of The Crownless.
Unlike armor, robes are designed to change a character's visual identity by covering the equipment worn underneath.
In classic MMORPGs, what people saw wasn't always what they got.
Sometimes the most dangerous player in the area looked like an ordinary traveler.
With Leather, Chainmail, and Platemail progressions now complete, we're beginning the next stage of character customization.
More robes and cloaks are coming.
The world keeps growing ⚔️

One of the most important lessons from Ultima Online is that great MMORPGs aren't built around content.
They're built around players.
The economy, the housing, the PvP, the guilds, the rivalries, the stories...
The systems mattered because they gave players reasons to create their own history.
That's why people are still talking about it almost 30 years later ⚔️
Ultima Online (often referred to as just UO), released in 1997, by Origin Systems, is widely regarded as the first true MMORPG and a foundational title that helped define and establish the genre.
It brought Lord British's epic single-player Ultima series into a multiplayer world set in Britannia.
One of the coolest features was the Sandbox-style gameplay, which meant no traditional levels or classes. You developed skills organically by doing things (e.g., swinging a sword to raise swordsmanship, or crafting items to improve tailoring or blacksmithing). You could be virtually anything you wanted.
It had a fully player-driven economy. Players gathered resources, crafted gear and goods, and traded among each other. Player housing was persistent and customizable, meaning you could own and decorate actual houses that stayed in the world.
It influenced EverQuest, World of Warcraft (which refined many ideas while adding accessibility), EVE Online (player-driven economies and politics), and countless others.
In a way UO was the ultimate "what if my D&D campaign never ended?" experience for RPG fans all around the world... almost 30 years ago. Time flies.
@reiverSF Exactly 😄
Losing something valuable felt terrible in the moment, but it also made every trip outside town meaningful.
When the world is truly dangerous, even simple decisions become memorable stories.
Yes, movement is currently WASD-based, so swinging while moving backwards is absolutely possible.
One thing we're actively working on, though, is reducing the amount of "running around" that naturally appears in early PvP tests. Our goal is to reward positioning, timing, and decision-making more than constant movement.
Ideally, the better fighter isn't the one moving the fastest, but the one making the smartest choices under pressure ⚔️

Ultima Online taught many of us our first lessons in economics, negotiation, reputation, and trust.
We just thought we were playing a game at the time ⚔️
⚔️ A major milestone reached.
With the addition of Blackrock Platemail Armor, we have now completed all core armor progressions in The Crownless world.
21 fully modular armor sets:
• 7 Leather / Ranger
• 7 Chainmail
• 7 Platemail
Every set consists of:
Helmet • Chest • Arms • Gloves • Leggings • Boots
Inspired by the player identity, progression, and living world atmosphere that made games like Ultima Online unforgettable.
One of our favorite things about old MMORPGs was that you could often tell who a player was before you even knew their name.
Their gear told a story.
Their reputation completed it.
Next stop:
🧙 Robes
🦸 Cloaks
The world keeps growing ⚔️

Honestly, that might be the dream.
Not recreating Ultima Online itself, but creating a world where PvPers, crafters, traders, roleplayers, explorers, and casual players all have a reason to coexist again.
The more different types of people a virtual world can support, the more alive it becomes ⚔️
The crazy part is that thousands of MMORPGs have been released since Ultima Online.
Yet people still aren't looking for a new MMO.
They're looking for that feeling again ⚔️
⚔️ Every player has a different fantasy.
Some want to be fast.
Some want to be stealthy.
Some want to disappear into the world.
And some want everyone to know they're coming.
Bloodrock Platemail Armor has entered The Crownless world.
Built for the kind of player who walks straight toward the fight instead of around it.
Like every armor set in our MMORPG, Bloodrock Platemail Armor is fully modular:
helmet, chest, arms, gloves, leggings, boots.
What kind of player are you?

⚔️ Old MMORPG players know this feeling.
You see a player wearing certain armor...
...and immediately start wondering if fighting them is a mistake.
Mythril Platemail Armor has entered The Crownless world.
Inspired by the dangerous player-driven atmosphere of Ultima Online, the brutal melee combat of Chivalry 2, and the legendary item progression that made games like Diablo unforgettable.
Like every armor set in The Crownless MMORPG, Mythril Platemail Armor is fully modular:
helmet, chest, arms, gloves, leggings, boots
The best armor wasn't always the strongest.
Sometimes it was the armor everyone recognized ⚔️

The craziest part is that everyone who played UO immediately understands what this means 😄
Not many games leave that kind of mark on people's lives.
Ultima Online wasn't just played.
It was lived ⚔️
⚔️ Old MMORPG players know this feeling.
Sometimes you saw a player and immediately knew they weren't wearing ordinary gear.
Not because of a tooltip.
Not because of a gear score.
Because certain materials had a reputation of their own.
Verite Platemail Armor has entered The Crownless's world.
Inspired by the player-driven identity of Ultima Online, the brutal combat of Chivalry 2, and the legendary item progression that made games like Diablo unforgettable.
Like every armor set in The Crownless MMORPG, Verite Platemail Armor is fully modular:
helmet, chest, arms, gloves, leggings, boots
Some materials become more than equipment.
They become part of the world's history ⚔️
