Ohio State to hire 100 new faculty with #AI expertise in 3 faculty cohorts: Foundational AI, Applied AI & Responsible AI and Cybersecurity https://t.co/HtzSAVXC5S
🚀 Worried about faculty openings? Ohio State @OhioState is to hire 100 new faculty with AI expertise over the next five years! 🤖🎓
The new hires will join one of three AI Faculty Cohorts:
🧠 Foundational AI — Elevating the theoretical, mathematical, and algorithmic underpinnings of AI.
🧩 Applied AI — Harnessing AI to revolutionize the translation of ideas into real-world solutions for Ohio and beyond.
🛡️ Responsible AI & Cybersecurity — Ensuring ethical innovation and safeguarding digital landscapes for a secure future.
📅 Initial faculty searches are underway — the first group of hires will join in Autumn 2026!
✨ Moreover, two tenure-track (open-rank) positions are already open in CSE @OhioStateCSE, starting in Fall 2026!
🔹 Timashev Professor (Assistant/Associate/Full, Tenure-Track) — in Programming Languages & Software Engineering (PLSE), starting as early as Fall 2026. Affiliated with the new Center for Software Innovation (CSI), endowed by a historic $110M Timashev Family Foundation gift — the largest in OSU’s history! 💰
🔹 Open-Rank Faculty in AI + Healthcare — seeking scholars at the intersection of AI/ML and healthcare innovation. The faculty will join the AI(X) Hub at Ohio State, established to drive innovation, provide resources, and foster the development of foundational and applied AI. 🧬💡
It’s been an amazing #SIGMOD2025 week in Berlin! I’m thrilled and honored to share that we’ve received the 🏆 2025 ACM SIGMOD Test-of-Time Award 🏆 for our paper "k-Shape: Efficient and Accurate Clustering of Time Series." #TimeSeries#Clustering#DataScience@SIGMODConf
Happy #Halloween ! See the outfit by a student in Professor Jim Davis' class today. If you dressed up in a cool costume today, comment your picture below!

@OhioStateCSE is looking to hire two Professors of Practice with expertise in Networking. If you are passionate about teaching and curriculum development in wireless networking, mobile and broadband communications, IoT, etc. consider applying. More info: https://t.co/7L8pk95d7X
Very interesting! I am glad to see db leaders sharing similar concerns. Reviewing issues, only few awards (vs. AI/ML/CHI venues), and focus on quantity are hurting us. At least, if 40 papers are needed for tenure, let's reduce the pages (NeurIPS = 4-5 SIGMOD pages) to compete :)
Last month the "DB Research Meeting" was held @mitcsail, hosted by Sam Madden and Natassa Ailamaki (🙏). An encounter of the who's who in data systems research.
I warned for the declining impact of DB research & pitched better incentives for system work: https://t.co/SGrN8NZSAA
"Best Projects" for my Advanced Database Systems class at @OhioStateCSE! Teams had to produce a 30-page report analyzing ~10 databases. Thanks to @tiledb, we had great swag as "awards." I forced them to smile; usually, they are not so happy when we dive into db optimizations 😀!
Congratulations to Emeritus Professor Pierre Agostini, who has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his study of electron dynamics in matter.
“The Nobel Prize is the pinnacle of scientific achievement,” said Acting President Peter Mohler. “All of us at Ohio State celebrate this recognition of Pierre’s lifetime of research and scholarship.”
There are many complaints about the review quality at #NeurIPS, yet it's unclear if we all do our part. How many papers/year are you (as Professor/Researcher/Postdoc) reviewing personally (not assigned to students) in the top ML venues (@icmlconf@NeurIPSConf@iclr_conf). Plz RT
