It's also a neat trend of the animators adding nudity to where there weren't any in the source material

There's so many levels to explain all of this and so many angles to attack it from. Therefore my thoughts may be scattered but I will try to keep it as concise as I can.

I guess one of the first signs of this kind of modern policing can be traced back to the 60's where the term "porno mag" association to just mainly refer to naked women was formed.

Fast forward today, and that association is stronger than ever and at the highest it's ever been. Younger generation now refer to mostly anything nudity as "porn". Their default brain faculty when anything fanservice related comes up is "just watch porn if you want any of that." Why?

It's because it's a top-down approach. The most major internet platforms that basically ban and therefore villainize ecchi and nudity are your YouTubes, Twitches, Instagrams, Facebooks, TikToks, etc. Therefore the content creators who show the closest to that kind of content but never explicitly are mostly the same ones who peddle and funnel people to their 18+ accounts for more explicit content. I'm talking of your OnlyFans models who have this kind of pipeline.

Because now most platforms ban it, and the people left use ecchi to lure people to their hardcore and extremely fetishized videos (think of your Twitch models in short skirts and dresses), and this has been going strong for a decade AT LEAST, we now have a generation who tie ecchi and nudity strongly to porn. It had a fleeting presence in recent Western media which is all but snuffed out, especially in animation, so the current generation wasn't fully grown in on it. That's why we get this kind of reaction we are seeing.

Thankfully, Japan is the last holdout of having ecchi in shows and manga. It's one of the reasons the modern West has been attacking them and Asia in general, but that's another thread for another time.

All the Scarlet Skips drama has shown me is that we've lost Ecchi as an art form.

Any vague amount of attractiveness is considered porn. Every bit of jiggle is porn. People are so used to bland, colourless media that anything vaguely fun means the artist must perish.

This is nice, don't get me wrong. I like the setting and the 80s fantasy aesthetic. But what most if not all the people who post these 80s callbacks always forget the nudity. It was quite a intergral ingredient in 80s sword and sorcery, but despite the vast freedom AI can give, no one wants to include it 🤔
